If they are careful with the furniture, treat you with respect, and you are pleased with their service, yes, I would tip. Maybe $10 each, depending on the cost of living in your area.

Yes. have each of them an envelope. They will be leaving the boxes for you probably. Just so you know. 12$ each is fine. More if cost of living is higher. We are in the midwest.

This has been a somewhat hotly contested subject here several times in the past, and as I recall there was not a general consensus. There are no "official guidelines" so do what you feel appropriate. Personally I would offer the guys a cold drink but I would not offer a monetary tip, unless they somehow performed some extra service that went above and beyond the basic furniture delivery (i.e., moving other furniture to make room for the new piece).

I have worked in furniture stores for years. Tipping was for above and beyond basic service. Being careful of your home and pleasant and courteous service is basic. Anything beyond $10 or so each is fine.

If they are pleasant and offer courteous service, I feel as if not tipping them is an insult. Most of these guys are working for little more than minimum wage, doing a job my boys would not want to do (of course that is another story completely). If I am receiving an item that is probably equal to a weeks paycheck to them, I consider it only appropriate to slip each of them no less than a ten. Wouldn't you tip a waiter or bartender? No different in my eyes.

This issue of tip or no tip can drive you crazy! That being said, I always tip-amount depends on the level of service, how long did it take, any major obstacles to overcome like stairs, etc.

Yes, I feel a tip for proper and courteous service is warranted. Especially now, the weather is getting hotter, and these guys are busting their behinds.

I gave each of them $10. They came in, set up the sofa, attached the L portion, zipped on the back cushions, told me they liked it, and were gone in 10 minutes. Both were extremely courteous, shook my hand introduced themselves, didn't see any packing materials, must never have left the truck.

I'm too late, but agree 100% with auntjen on this. Tipping has gotten out of hand, imo.

I always tip. Can't feed a baby or pay bills with a nice frosty lemonade. I'm glad to offer a drink, but if I can buy a sofa, pay for delivery, I can spring for another $20-$30. Why be cheap with the people who can least afford it?

Perfect tip for the delivery :) I tip ten min if it's a quick and simple delivery (as yours was) and more if it is harder work. I tipped my fridge delivery guys 20 each the day before yesterday because of all the stairs and the extra effort they took to be sure to be careful of our wood floors and walls.

With the exception of jobs that traditionally require tips like waiters, I only give and only accepted tips if the work done was more than and above what was required and expected.

I always tip for courteous, careful service... you never know when you'll be using the same guys (and gals) again, and I want them to care about my stuff as much as I do! You have the right to expect adequate service, but it makes moving day so much more human and pleasant to reward extra effort! That said, I do NOT reward negligent or slipshod behavior... I report it to the movers' supervisors.

I don't know why the question of tipping delivery people has to always disintegrate into people suggesting that others are "cheap" if they don't do so. It's entirely a personal choice.

(And I guess it's entirely a personal choice to call someone who doesn't do as you do "cheap", but it's not very nice.)

So I'm a day late on this but I'll chime in and say yes, I tip, if the service is good and the folks are polite etc. I figure the $20 or whatever means more to them than to me, and I'm lucky that I'm not the one hauling heavy stuff for a living. That's purely personal and no reflection on someone else's tipping or not.

The exception? When I waited months for my gorgeous, big, heavy desk to be delivered from NC... This desk with hutch weighs several hundred lbs. The delivery guys: one was about 90 lbs, the other had a broken foot. They asked my husband (who had just had hip surgery) and me (5 mo's pregnant at the time) to help them carry it, otherwise they would send it back to NC! It ended up in the garage until we could hire someone local to carry it upstairs. Can I just say for the record that those guys did NOT get a tip?!
