Most of my fabric comes from JoAnn's. If I need something special (a particular kind of print or something) I will search the Internet and buy it at the least expensive place. There are a few quilt shops in my area (they are all at least 15 miles away), but I rarely go to them.

I shop many places online, especially sales. But get more fabrics from Webfabrics than any other single place. They have always been so very nice and helpful.

I've got quite a few LQS to shop and look at. Often if I see something I really like and it's full price, I'll go on line and search for that fabric and best prices for particular fabric. I watch for sales locally and on-line to pick up "stuff that I like."

I hardly have to buy fabric as I keep inheriting more fabric than I have room for. Someone is giving me two bags of fabric today that they are getting rid of. So, I have been very lucky that way. When I have to buy I go to JoAnn's or Walmart (one of the ones around here is still selling fabric) or to a couple of LQS that are around here but are very high but for something special I will pay. Mostly at Walmart, I will buy the batting or interfacing or something like that and thread.

When I lived in Orlando I shopped at JoAnns. After moving to rural GA I have ordered online from JoAnns and was dissappointed with the material.
I do not have anything close by, but 1 Walmart an hour drive away still sells material.
Online I watch for sales and I have been very pleased with Eleanor Burns, Connecting Threads, and Fabric.com.
Most are having Memorial Day sales and free shipping with a certain $ amount.

I like Connecting Threads and Fabric Depot in Portland. I have used lots of others but prices of these two seem best. Fabric Depot is very large - I've been in their store - and you can do a search by a specific manufacturer and fabric line.

I buy fabric online, at JoAnn, Walmart at yard sales and thrift stores. I never pay full price and have never been to a quilt shop, I could not afford to buy there. I usually pay $1 a yard or less at thrift stores and less at yard sales. I evaluate the fabric for quality and if it's something I can live with I buy it. Sometimes I find really good quality, not always. I have a good sized stash, don't always have a project in mind when I pick something up for cheap. I am retired and I don't worry about ever no having what I need to quilt.

I by most in person at Joanns. I do like to by my quilt backs 108" from Fabric.com and have had very good luck with them.

I am lucky - I have some choices. I have a Local Quilt shop that has beautiful - but all expensive fabrics. I try to support them. They only have two sales per year. I also have 2 Joanns locally. I am not crazy about the quality of much of their fabric, or the lack of helpful personnel - "ya get what ya pay for". I try to take advantage of their coupons, but they measure and charge by the inch, cut crooked, I beg them to rip and have to buy extra to get the actual amt I need. That said, I still shop there, would be unhappy if they closed. I do see some of the same fabrics at Joanns for alot less then the quilt shop. I was the manager for years of a huge fabric store (many years ago)- I understand the reasons for the huge diff in prices - out of season, ends of runs, 1st of the runs, the quantity discount and buying power, etc. I look online, but have not actually bought fabric. It is nice to get some testimonials here from this group on their ordering favorites - thank you.

I guess I am lucky as I live near the Lancaster County, PA area. They have the best prices around for the same name fabric out of their area. You get to know the people well and they are extremely helpful. I know that people from New York come down in busses for the day to shop in the area. They rave about the good prices and great selections.

We have Joanne Fabric fairly close, and I go there when I am in a hurry for something. But that is not my favorite place to shop. When I first quilted I went there all the time until my club members introduced me to the Lancaster shops.

I have bought online with Connecting Threads, because I saw fabric and pattern that looked interesting. I was happy with what I have bought from them.

If I'm stocking up on basics, I prefer to do it in person at my fav fabric shop in Indiana. Kona Cotton I buy from Hancocks of Paducah online. I know Joann's has it but they are 30 miles away and they don't have all the shades and the last time I was there, I wasn't impressed with any of their fabric. If I need a fix, I check out the 40% off room at the LQS and see if there's anything I can't live without.

I am in Nova Scotia right now where the fabric is approxiamtely twice as expensive as in the States!! As much as possible, I buy my fabric when I am in Florida - at Walmart and Joanne's.

I was so disappointed to get home to NS and find that the local Walmart has discontinued carrying fabric. Also my other favourite LQS has moved and is over an hour drive away. That leaves me with the LQS that is about 40 minutes away and very expensive!! For example - for a 6 ounce can of quilting spray they wanted $15!!

I do buy a bit on line, too.

I plan my projects annually - so I can bring home fabric - but otherwise I scrounge here and there.

I have been building my stash for years and have bought from many places. Now when I go on trips I stop at every QS that I am near and usually induldge myself. When I am at home I mainly shop at Quilt stores (none are very close but always enjoyable).If I am in a hurry I go to Joannes but get very frustrated with the service and quality that they sometimes have. I shop on line at Connecting threads, Hancock of Paducah, MaryJo's when I want something that they carry but I sometimes have issues with postage. I also will search on line if I am looking for a special material, batts, and backing. I love specials but fabric is my extravagance and at this point don't feel the need to justify. Jayne

I usually buy at the LQS. They have great sales , $1 fat quarters, once or twice a year. This month they have 25% off all regular price fabric. I may have to make another visit before the month is up!
I have ordered online and always have been happy with the fabric. When I started quilting, I bought most of my fabric at Joann's but not so much now.

I usually buy at Rosie's Calico Cupboard in El Cajon (CA), which has a huge collection, and when I do, I always check the tables outdoors where things are cheaper, but occasionally I go to Joann's.

I have bought on-line at Connecting Threads, Hancock's of Paducah, Fabric Shack, and Batiks Plus. I was well satisfied with all of them, but I have bought the most from Hancock's and Fabric Shack.

I only have one expensive LQ shop so I do most of my buying On Line. My DH loves it as he does not have to make out of town quilt store trips. I shop at several places and usually on sales. I have had excellent service and top grade fabrics.
