Whew! that was close

It looks like we might have been very close to a tornado last night. All sorts of branches on the ground, all my chairs from my deck, a smashed planter, a small glass table top are broken over in the yard or on the driveway. My huge outdoor saddle tree and three oil barrels (for barrel racing :) are no where near where they started. Several power poles next to the road by our house are down, the neighbor lost a barn and my FIL's irrigation pivot which is 1/4 mile long was toppled. It's weird, so many NOT so aerodynamic things are sitting in the most unusual places.

Poor DD who is terrified of tornados, was whimpering in my lap last night while we were in the basement waiting it out, no electricity just a few flash lights and a camp light. ON the other hand DH was snoring on the lazy boy while the weather turned for the worse. I knew he could sleep through a tornado.

About 1 am , two volunteer firemen and close friends, came pounding on our door to make sure we were safe and check on the structures. They mentioned there was a fire on the pole which is on the other side of the wind break. Wow, we had no idea. We are lucky our electicity comes from the other direction. The lights came back on about 7 am. Makes me appreciate the luxury of electricity!

Dh just came in for the camera. Guess there are trees on a semi truck and cattle trailer. He'll be off to check a few other buildings this am. I have a bad feeling about one of our buildings, there is going to be so much damage. sigh. I heard there were at least 50 reports of tornados last night, crazy!

We're ok, the horses and pets are fine. I'm gratful to have my family safely in sight.

Looks like our Iowa friends were pummeled too. I hope Sandy, Linda, and others are doing ok this morning.

I'm glad to hear you are okay! Sounds like a scary night for your family.

The storms this year have been crazy.

I am just fine. Thanks for thinking of me. We didn't even have a tornado warning here, just a watch. The thunder woke me up a couple of times in the night but I went right back to sleep.

Wow Karen...you have SO MANY beautiful things. This was fun to see tham again...along with some new. Your bay window always looks nicely decorated and I love the 'green thing' Glass House - with the rabbits inside. Your counter vignetts look so pretty..from your plates -..chickens...gourds ...and also the accents above your curio cabinets...I had forgotten your 'iron cage'...that was a beautiful find and wonderfully decorated too. Glad you are back ...we missed seeing all your wonderful collections. I know it was a big job...but I enjoyed every minute of it. jane

*sip* *sip* *crunch* *crunch* *crunch* (I just LOVE tea time!) But bad news! I tried on my smock, and the front is hanging very weird! It actually pooches waaaay forward, and it looks like I am 6 months pregnant. I have no idea why this is happening. It is very strange. I can smooth it down, and then if I kind of swing back and forth, the front of the smock literally grows! I can watch the fabric actually pull out in the front! I thought maybe the fabric just needed to be washed. So I washed and dried it. It still does it. All I can think is that: 1. when I put on the pockets, I somehow gathered the fabric between them so there is a permanent pooch/pouch? 2. I pulled the binding too much in some places (but where?), and that is making the front swell forward? It is truly bizarre. It didn't do this before I put the edging on. I don't know if it started after I put the pockets on. I guess the easiest thing to try is to remove a pocket. But is that doesn't work, then my dear smock will be relegated to apron status. No way, no how am I removing that endless bias tape! Shoot--I'll bet it is the !@#$%^& bias tape. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr. francy

I keep thinking...what if it was one of the bigger dogs.Could I have pulled him back in? I don't think I could have pulled Rock back,he weighs 60 lbs. Michie is only 8/10 lbs.He was almost gone,his head was even with the window frame when I got him. I didn't think I'd get him. Luck was on my side.I dreamt about it last night. Poor little guy,his eyes were big as saucers. I left him up front to sit on my lap the rest of the way. I feel so stupid but wanted to warn everyone about what could happen if you don't lock the windows. OUCH! On shutting those windows on your arms and fingers! I want the old wind style windows back! LOL! They are safer for humans and animals alike, in my opinion.

That was a little too close. I'm so glad your house stood strong. The number of tornadoes this year is far too high.

I just now heard on the radio about how bad NE and IA got hit! I was hoping all of the KTers were OK. Close calls will sure get your attention, but it sounds like you were ready.

I was wondering about you guys Toni! I knew that those tornadoes had to be close where you were! Thank God everyone is safe...things can be replaced!

Like Linda said, we only had watches in our area. We had 4" in the gauge this morning, making it 7" in the last few days. The parks, golf course, ball fields are all under water this morning, and will only get worse for the next couple of days when the water from the north comes down. I was up until about 1:30, it rained so incredibly hard that I was worried about our 2 sump pumps. The one in the newer basement ran continually for about an hour!! Water was just pouring into the pit! Thankfully the pumps were able to keep up!

This could be a very long day. Caryn and I are babysitting a 9 month and an 11 month little girls! I WILL be napping when they go down for their nap this afternoon!...probably go to bed when they do tonight too! LOL I am just too old to sit up that late!

I'm glad your family is ok! My gosh that was very close and I'd have been petrified.

We had candles, and flashlights ready to go down to the basement, as we sat watching the finale of Lost. Didn't have to go though it looked like we would for a while. I heard up where the cabin is had a tornado a little south of it. Hopefully not a lot of limbs down or anything. I haven't called my cousin who lives up there yet. I don't worry about limbs hitting my trailer, because it sets in front of a row of Blue Spruce.
I'll find out tomorrow, when Mom and I go up for Saturday and Sunday.

Toni...are you close to York...?

Jeff and his friends were just coming home from Colo. last night just behind all of that..he said as they were coming through or past York it was just terrible. Semi's rolled over. Light poles down. Silo's on the ground.
He said he saw highway patrol or sheriff shinning light in window of one overturned semi, and running back to car to call in. He figured someone in semi was hurt.

I'm glad they were traveling about 10 mins or so behind.

My daughter Carri was just coming home in that storm too but she was traveling from Kansas City area up this way..
coming home from Branson. They were right in the middle of the "red" zone all the way home.

I'm thankful they all made it home safe.

glad you're safe Toni, I'll have to call my sister at York and see if she had damage. Please let them be over now (although I know the season isn't finished) I'll be there in 2 1/2 weeks and I really don't want to be dealing with tornados!!

Yikes, that was close. I am glad you are all safe.

I just woke up to tree branches crashing down in the backyard. My honey locust tree is loaded with flowers and with the heavy rain and wind we had about an hour and a half ago it was too much for the branches to bear.

I got up to see if my phone line was still connected because the branches fell close to the back of the house.

We had some wicked lightening bolts earlier this evening.

Again, I am glad Toni to hear you and your family are safe.

Checking in here fro Ansley. We lucked out and the storms just went south of us. We did go down to Kearney yesterday and boy was it a mess, trees down, business roofs gone and several houses destroyed. My BIL got called earlier this week to help with the damage in Iowa but late Thursday night they were told that they were leaving at 6 in the morning to head back to work on the power and transmission lines in Nebraska.
