JCPenney Silk Drapes Question

I'm interested in the LaScala silk drapes from JCPenney. I know others have recommended them and they seem to be good quality for the price.

Do they ever go on sale? Although they are less expensive at the regular price than silks from RH or PB or other stores, $400 (I have a huge window and need the 120" width)is still a pretty hefty chunk of change. And, since Penney's seems to put EVERYTHING on sale eventually I'm inclined to wait...unless for some reason the LaScala doesn't cycle through sale prices.

So, anyone gotten them on sale? And in general anyone have them and want to share any opinions?

I purchased the LaScala silk drapes last year and waited for drapes to go on sale which they did quite frequently. I think I had free shipping as well. I purchased ivory in a larger size (120" or one size down) and have been extremely happy with the look and quality.

I got mine this past weekend and thought I got great deal on them. With coupons and sale, I paid $310. I needed 120" wide x 100" long. They had 50% off plus Memorial day sale of extra 10% off, I printed coupon off internet for extra 15% off. I also got free shipping. I think you can find a coupon for 15% off on www.retailmenot.com.

I read a lot of post from readers on here that said they liked them so I felt comfortable going with those.

TARGET!! you won't believe this but I went and bought lined faux silk drapes there a few weeks ago, brought them home and realized I knew why they appealed to me: they looked IDENTICAL to the totally REAL silk drapes I have in my dining room (and also the exact same color--I must have had a lapse of mental ability!). But for my guest room, they are great and the texture is very nice. They were $17 per panel. A great find! I like the idea above about gluing on some decorative trim...I'll have to do that!

Silk draperies need to be made correctly else you will have problems with the way they look and perform. I provide custom window treatments for a living and first I will say without a doubt that you get what you pay for. Silk must be lined and interlined as it is very fragile and will rot if exposed to bright sunlight. As a designer, I would steer you away from silk draperies as it sounds as if you have very big sun and that you would be relying on the draperies for solar control. If you really want genuine silk, I would encourage you to layer your window treatment with some sort of shade or shutter which will temper the bright sunshine. The draperies still need to be interlined, thermal lining is not something that does well with the hand of silk fabric. The two fabrics are at odds with each other. There are some spectacular faux silks which look quite nice, it would be a better alternative for you with your special requirements. As you might imagine, I am an advocate of using the services of an experienced designer who can not only provide you with the window treatments but who can offer some advice which will keep you from making an expensive mistake.

I also bought them a few months ago for my breakfast area in copper brown. I love them. I got them 100" length and hung them under my crown molding. It made the room look so much bigger. I'm going home in a few minutes and will take a picture. I went with pinch pleats and so glad that I did. I don't think I could have made them hang right without the pleats.

Hi, 42" is not a lot when smooshed together in pleats (experiment with something you have to see what I mean) and so they're probably just meant - if you use one alone on either side of a window, to be nonworking. If you want one large piece that closes and also covers both windows at once, you might need to go the 'custom' route, but that's not a big deal really, done every day (more so than other products that you order as 'custom'), because no one's house (or windows) are exactly alike even if widths of single windows are 'standards'. You could possibly use 4 panels - two for each window - rather than two great big ones, if you don't need 'working' ones though. Or else buy a lot of separates and sew them together (not sure why you say it doesn't make sense).

Michelle, you got exactly what I'm seeking-the Ivory color. I saw a sample panel and LOVED it, glad you are happy with it.

Dprisock, I'm totally puzzled and wondering if I missed out. I kept checking this weekend online to see if the LaScala was on sale and didn't see it listed...wonder if it was only in stores :(. If I didn't know that JCPenney seems to have, as they breathlessly advertise, THE BIGGEST SALE OF THE YEAR pretty much every week I'd be really upset!

Although twor, thanks a bunch for the coupon code. I might let myself be tempted to take the 20% and have the drapes asap.

Or maybe I'll behave myself and just keep checking for sales though I might add some weekly phone calls to my repertoire so I don't miss out again.

I went in to the store to get advise on my measurements and there was a sign. My receipt said I saved $817! I got the made-to-length pinch pleated ones because I have odd size.

Like you said, they have a sale every week. I bet the AFTER Memorial Day sale is even bigger! :)

Hope you get what you want (at the price you want!)!!

I have them in bronze in my dining room. They wrinkle easily, but I do love them.
