My pool light

I have two pool lights. One of the pool light went out. I removed the pool light base on the instructions I found from a website. Basically I remove a screw, pull out the light, remove the light cover, replace the bulb.

I made sure new bulb matches the original. The spec is 12V and 100W.

Before I put all back together, I try to test the light and found that it was not working.

I used the voltmeter to make sure the new bulb is good and I have power when I turn the pool light on. Seems like everything is in order. I have the power, the light bulb is good but still no light. Not sure what to do. Please help!

I even try to jump the power to the bulb using two cables to see if the new bulb is not sitting on the base correctly. Still no light.

I also took out the working light since I have two in the pool and try to test my new light and check the volt with the voltmeter to make sure the voltage matches.

I found that new bulb works and voltage matches with the one that is not working.

I am running out of ideas. Please help!!!!!

Do not turn the light on out of water because it is water cooled and it will blow your new bulb...In the socket of the fixture WITH THE POWER OFF AT THE BREAKER make sure the tab in the bottom of the fixture socket is raised somewhat you may just not be makeing connection in the socket.

Also make sure that the fixture is indeed 12v and not 120v. If you're putting a 12v lamp into a 120v fixture it won't light.

Does the pool light work? If no, check the GFCI. If yes and you have a multimeter or voltage meter you can energize the spa light and check the relay's load terminal to the neutral or ground bar for 120 +- volts. If you have voltage and you already replaced the bulb don't bother replacing the bulb again, it'll be a bad fixture. If your pool is only a half year old your spa lamp will be under warranty from the Mfg. See ya, Kelly

gman66, First, check to make sure that the niche opening that the cord comes thru is free of epoxy or other material that might have been used to seal the opening. The cords will expand over the years and will be hard to pull out. I like to cut the lamp off and pull the cord thru the junction box if possible. Chances are good that the brass conduit is only 1/2". No gromet or machanical connection was used with the niche you are describing. Good luck.

Hey Bruce, I'm curious about the x10s in this scenario. If I were to wire in an x10 dimmer for my pool lights after the Pentair EasyTouch Controller, what happens to the on/off sequence? For instance, if the EasyTouch turns it on and off, does the x10 remember that it was on before, or does it always revert to an off position after it loses power? Does it remember the dim setting or go back to bright?
