can someone give me a ballpark figure?
Comments (5)Anna, sometimes the mother tuber will go on to grow, but the idea seems to be that it is nearly 'used up' and won't go on to produce a very robust plant, if at all. I planted one this year of Wildwood Marie and the plant was indeed very slow, much smaller than a fresh tuber-produced W.Marie plant and the flowers are smaller too. You can see if the mother tuber will produce shoots next year for cuttings, which is why I kept a couple of them. They are generally darker looking than a new tuber taken out of the ground. You can see the difference in color here. Mother on the left and new tuber/s to the right. And here as well. This is my Show and Tell which got crushed/broken by a falling neighbor plant or two. But if you get the amazing beet colored tubers the 'different color' theory goes right out the window! I can't recall if the mother was obvious on the pink clump, probably. Maybe it had a cane and shawl....See MoreCabinets-Is this quote in the ballpark? (long)
Comments (8)salmon slayer and rmkitchen: Thanks for the responses. I love both your kitchens. I've studied your island both for design and that incredible counter surface, salmon slayer and your backsplash is awesome with all the veining right above the rangetop, rmkitchen. I have several quotes and this quote is one of the lower ones. I have been to this shop twice to see the cabinets as well as the finishes. My GC has worked with this cab maker on several other projects and likes his attention to detail right through the install. I am now in the negotiate stage due to the slow economy all over and right here in my area and other factors too. I am doing several rooms with a lot of electrical, Hvac and plumbing involved. Gone are the sofits in the mudroom, powder room and kitchen. Gone are all those floors. The list is long. I am doing wall paper removal and other small demo to save costs. I've worked my way through most of the wallpaper in the house with good results. I have researched, shopped, read this forum, asked questions of many, looked at newly remodeled kitchens through tours, friends, and friends of friends. I think I could be TKO. My DH thinks so! I think the quote is good but I am looking for great. I have made a lot of changes to get close to a number that can make this renovation happen. I'm close but I am revisiting each part of the project. The cabinets are the largest part of the project with the rough and finish carpentry work next. I've asked my GC to look at his numbers since I can't bid that out without finding a new GC. I just needed to confirm that this is a good number or move on to another cabinet maker. One thing I love about these cabinets are that the drawer fronts pop off so replacement of doors and drawer fronts would be possible without replacing the boxes way down the road. This is planned to be my 'forever' home. Would love if more people would chime in....See MoreBallpark figure for this tile?
Comments (13)Can'thelp with those, but I can tell you that this beauty from Ann Sacks only costs $528.93-$666.45/sq.ft, if you were considering that...like I WAS...but no longer am...haha! I know another I enquired about, the BeauMonde Grace pattern is also water-jet cut (the artiste above is "hand-cut" which must require VERY strong hands, huh? :) and the Grace runs $111.14-$151.55/sq.ft depending on stones used.... I've just been emailing with someone from the Ann Sacks showroom I went to, and she's been very happy to provide prices via email. You might want to try that.......See MoreNeed help figuring out what to do with kitchen cabinets
Comments (22)katie brings up a good point, but a half-a** paint job is only going to last so long. even a handyman is going to charge thousands. Read up on how cabinets should be properly sanded, primed, sanded again, and then painted, so you'll know the steps. If a cheap estimate is given to you, they'll prob just deglaze them apply a quick primer, and paint right over it. (and they'll leave everything in place) . after a few months the paint will chip. another option is to keep the skeleton base, (and even the drawers since they're a slab-face) and just get new doors. I had new doors added when I had my cabinets painted. Although, your doors really aren't that bad. At least they aren't arched. pickled oak before/after. new counters/ splash, and they coffered the tray ceiling (like you have) basically it will look like this before: and After, once painted (horrible handle placement though!) you could even add some glass in a few of the doors. Maybe paint the island a diff, darker color (these oak cabs were recently done. but your door style is better than this one) Trim out you island so the end panels look finished! do the island top in something like this, and the other counters in plain white then add some modern style handles similar to these. Do a simple tile backsplash....See More- 16 years ago
