cabbage rose wallpaper--please point me

For an attic bedroom with sloped ceilings, I would love to find a cabbage rose wallpaper. My notion of the ideal would be something like Cowtan and Tout's Windsor Rose -- probably long discontinued and in any case, horribly expensive. I would like something like that -- big clusters of old fashioned roses.

Am I hopelessly out of date or does anything like this still exist (at an affordable price)?

Would appreciate pointers!

Cabbage rose lover here - I love to see slipcovers done in a cabbage rose fabric.

Yes, it is probably hopelessly out-of-date to just cover all the walls in a room with this type of print.

I think you could find a fresh use for the wallpaper. Maybe above a chair rail with the rail and bottom half done in the right shade of pink or green.

If it's an attic room with sloped walls, there's probably no chairrail, lol...

I'm not sure about big cabbage roses in an attic room. Wouldn't the figured wallpaper make the space claustrophobic?

What about putting your vintage wallpaper on the gable (end) walls only?

Can you post a photo of the space?

Hey I had your same problem, beds full of rubble and thus alkaline soil, i could solve the problem a bit and im still working on it, i currently have lowered the ph by 1 point. What i did was: till, remove the rubble, added lots of cow manure, not aged plain and fresh (i did this because i was not going to plant anything there immediatelly and fresh manure is more acidic), i added once a month generous amounts of iron sulphate (so iron would be available, cause in high ph it tends to lock up not be available, and also it is very acidic, because it contains sulphur), and watered every week with an vinegar solution. After 5 months of doing this i planted roses and some herbs, and they suffered from cholriosis, but in time and with more additions of iron suphate and vinegar an OM i managed to solve this, and now im doing great in that bed. Hi Jenny--I live near Arpin (between Marshfield and Wis Rapids) I am familiar with Point, as my brother lives there and my sister did, also, for the past 30 years or so. I have 3 kids, too--but my 'baby' just graduated..and I have a grandbaby, too:) Anyhoo, I love gardening, like you do, although I suck at food gardens (and containers, too--mostly cuz I forget to water them!!) I can grow perennials, though:) mostly cuz it's 'survival of the fittest".....once they get established, I let them do their thing. Plus I make sure that what I buy is for our zone---I pity the poor people who purchase things at Menards, thinking they will return the next year and find out it has died off over the winter cuz it wasn't for this zone!! The only things I really 'baby' are the roses that I have, and that consists of applying systemic food/insect control twice or so a summer. And, Round-up (or a cheaper version that I found) is my friend, as well:) I love going to the area flower shops (all the way over to Greenwood--and then to Rapids and Point (I LOVE LENSMEIERS),looking for something I don't have. It's great fun!! I also sell plants in the spring. Just got rid of the last of the ones I had today. Only sell 'em for a buck or two--they are just the 'volunteer' seedlings that pop up and I cannot bear to just put them in the compost pile, so I pot 'em up! The proceeds help fund the addiction:) (and, this year, they helped 'fund' the 30 or so grad parties that we have been invited to this year:) My husband probably thinks I'm nuts, too, but he doesn't say too much--I can re-arrange the living room and he notices it, maybe a week later:) so he really can't tell when I tuck a plant (or dozen) around the yard, here and there. ALso, he is restoring a 1969 Mustang Fastback, so if he ever does say anything, I can play the "Mustang card":) Well, enough carrying on---I really should do the dishes!! Happy gardening!!

aok27502- There are any number of vegetarian recipes that work well as substitutes for ground beef in recipes. These are three recipes I have in my file. #1 Ground Beef Substitute 1 c. lentils 1 c. rice 4 c. water Cook like rice and use as a substitute for ground beef. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ #2 Ground Beef Substitute 1/2 c. quinoa* 1 vegetable bouillon cube (or beef flavored) 1 c. water 2 T. olive oil 1/2 medium onion, finely chopped 2 t. minced garlic 1 (15.5) can black beans (UNdrained) In a saucepan, bring 1 c. water and bouillon cube to a b oil. Add quinoa, stir, and reduce to a simmer. Cook until water is absorbed (approx. 20-minutes). Meanwhile, heat olive oil in skillet over med. heat. Add onion, stirring to coat, then garlic. Saute until translucent. Add beans and bring to a simmer, until heated thoroughly. At this point mash some of the beans with a potato masher. Once quinoa is cooked, mix it into the beans. Flavor to taste or to the purpose you will be using the substitute. However: only rats on HFHS (fat plus sugar) diet developed hyperglycemia, hyperinsulinemia, glucose intolerance and a diminished insulin response to a glucose load. " When I'm busy, I gulped one glass of juice for energy (100% juice with natural sugar) .. that kept my blood-sugar stabilized to finish a task for 1 hour longer. And a glass of soy milk (7 g. protein) & brewer's yeast & honey lasts me 4 hours without eating. Recently I did something different: finish the last bar of Klondite ice-cream (230 calories, 14 g of fat, 20 g white sugar) & sweet & greasy. Right after that, my blood sugar crashed, I was unbearably hungry and had to eat a meal immediately. I checked the ingredients: it has sugar & corn syrup (high fructose corn syrup). A little of fat plus protein is useful to keep one full. But fat plus sugar induce more hunger. I tested blueberry-smoothie made with 0% fat Greek yogurt versus 2% fat yogurt, and the 2% fat yogurt is more filling & last longer. CONCLUSION: Fat & protein & veggies is a good combo. Fat is needed to absorb the nutrients in veggies better. We have a friend who's a vegetarian and he ALWAYS USE full-fat salad-dressing, plus full-fat cheese on his salads, and he's just as skinny as husband in their late 50's. I used coconut oil to make banana muffin, and olive oil in my cooking. Here's what the Dean of Nutrition, Harvard Medical School said about coconut oil: http://www.health.harvard.edu/staying-healthy/coconut-oil "Coconut oil is about 90% saturated fat, which is a higher percentage than butter (about 64% saturated fat), beef fat (40%), or even lard (also 40%). Too much saturated fat in the diet is unhealthy because it raises "bad" LDL cholesterol levels, which increases the risk of heart disease. So it would seem that coconut oil would be bad news for our hearts. But what's interesting about coconut oil is that it also gives "good" HDL cholesterol a boost. But, for now, I'd use coconut oil sparingly. Most of the research so far has consisted of short-term studies to examine its effect on cholesterol levels. We don't really know how coconut oil affects heart disease. And I don't think coconut oil is as healthful as vegetable oils like olive oil and soybean oil, which are mainly unsaturated fat and therefore both lower LDL and increase HDL. Coconut oil's special HDL-boosting effect may make it "less bad" than the high saturated fat content would indicate, but it's still probably not the best choice among the many available oils to reduce the risk of heart disease. — Walter C. It's less tasty than NOW brand (sold out at local health food store). Solgar BY has a "plastic" & artificial taste to it, and less acidic than NOW. So I'll use Solgar BY for my roses, and still need to buy NOW brewer's yeast when they stock up.

I love those kind of rooms- especially with the sloped ceilings and romantic wallpaper everywhere.
I don't think of it as out of date at all but vintage or even classic for that style.
To keep it fresh, don't use any borders and use in style accessories.

I have no source of wallpaper, but I would look at Ralph Lauren, they might have something.

Look at Waverley too- Ballad Bouquet is a very pretty (and popular) cabbage rose pattern and it comes in a variety of colors.
I think a Waverly pattern might be easiest to find or order at a reasonable price.

Oh that IS a classic style. I love to stay in B&Bs with beautifully papered attic rooms. This pattern is quite lovely.

I think the key to doing this in a room with angles is committing fully to it. I would do the walls and window coverings and probably even a bedspread all in the same pattern and have any woodwork painted the background color of the paper or fabric--so everything just kind of bled together. That way furniture pieces themselves, and some accessories would stand out but the rest of the room would become the envelope, even in a strong pattern.

I would try a faded look like Waverly's Ballard Bouquet in "Crimson" which is a funny name for this colorway. It has matching companion fabric

Thanks all! The Ballad Bouquet is a possibility.

I have been searching pictures of rooms at B&B's and found one with a rose paper by Greef -- trying to find out what it is (is it even current? can I afford it?)

I found an example of what I think Pal is suggesting. It is the second room down, called the Rose Room. If you click on the small pictures a larger one will open.

I think the cabbage rose wallpaper is a great idea! I would put the rose pattern, just on the walls and have the bedspread, window treatments, accessories, etc. be in solid colors, so the wallpaper really become the focal point. Maybe some painted furniture, white bedding (with pink or green sheets) and some lovely accessories. Here's a link :)

So funny -- I discovered the Hound and Hare too! I love the wallpaper in the master bedroom. The inn owner told me it is a Greef paper. I will try to find it.

I have a bedroom with cabbage rose paper in my house. It is beautiful. The paper is similar to the pics powermuffin posted...cream background, lots of pink flowers, green leaves, etc. We have cream colored lace curtains over blinds on the windows.

When our dtr was young, she had pink and green bedding and accents. Now that she is grown, the bedding is a deep cream, the accents are mainly green with a little pink and ivory. The furniture has always been painted off-white.

And, yes, it is the same paper. I've washed it several times, it's still perfect. We don't have a lot of sleepover guests (who aren't our kids!), but everyone who sees the room thinks it's like a bed & breakfast. I love the look! In a sloped-wall attic, I think it would be perfect!

I hope you will post a picture when you are finished, I for one, would love to see it. It sounds wonderful for an attic room. It sounds like it would be a very comforting room.
