Very creative and fun! I don't know if I can say it's 'lovely' but it is interesting and I think it could make a honestly attractive quilt. Good job!

I think the orange was an excellent choice for the background. Makes the block nice and bright. I think the eye is drawn to the block as a whole and you don't even see the ugly at all. Well done!

Great choice of patterns Beverly. When you cut fabrics up that small, you can hardly tell they are ugly.

Thanks everyone. I think when you cut them up, it tones them down. There is enough of the orange for the entire wall hanging, which is good since it was sent to me as an ugly fabric. I have added some of my own into the mix. I may just leave the crooked center, it is after all an ugly fabric block. I have one other block my DD suggested that will be added to the quilt (or perhaps one of the other challenge ones), but haven't finished it yet.

Between dr appointments, ER visits, work, MIL not walking and internet being down I'm so far behind. I was going to do Spring as my first challenge wall hanging, but will do this one for fall instead.

Forgot, I did not hand sew them. I used the applique like stitch on my machine. I'm not that brave.

I love that block, and I have twelve more just like it hanging on my design wall. I smiled when you posted this because somebody posted a tutorial for the easy Dresden Plate a month or two ago and I notice several of us jumped on this block. It's been a very fun one to do and yes.........it lends itself well to 'ugly' fabric.

I think this is one of my all-time fav quilts I'm about to wrap up on. My DH checks on my progress each quilt I do and I can tell my his non-verbals that he is not loving this one. When I push him for comments, he says things like *well, maybe the sashing will make it come together*. Just sitting here laughing.

I purposely chose a fabric for my circles I would have never, ever used by choice in a planned quilt. I had enough of it on-hand for one thing, and I couldn't think of anything I'd want to use it in for another. It's a very good fabric, but ugly shade and coarse weave. I think it's Indian Head cotton. But, you know, that Olive drab cloth is the perfect foil for the crazy panels. I have worked pastels in for the interest.

My challenge this year is to crank out one quilt a month, and this is actually number four since January if you count a baby quilt. These are all machine finished, and no larger than twin size and all of these are destined to be given to people I want to have one of my quilts. It was a long list and I have more to do.

I love your block and it'll make a fun wall hanging.

Great block! Good choice for the uglies. I find it hilarious that the fabric I submitted isn't in the block. It is so weird that even it would stick out like a sore thumb because it doesn't play well with anything!

I don't think they are nearly as Ugly cut up - which goes to show that an ugly fabric isn't ugly if you cut it up small enough.
You did a great job - I'd leave the wonky circle - adds to the mish- mash of Ugly.

Don't worry Rebecca, it will be in one of the blocks. I have more uglies than needed for one block. I'm going to make a half plate for each side, and something else in the corners. Thinking about a piano key border.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!! I think your choice of pattern in great. Clam shells would work as an alturnative. You are very creative and I agree it is amazing what you can do with sm. cuts of different fabric.
I do think you are brave using the orange though. Can't wait to see the rest of it when it is done. TFS. Jayne

The ugly fabrics look much better in small doses! In fact, SOME of them are rather pretty now.

Another that thinks you are a brave soul.I knew this could be done,and turn lemons into lemonade,as we used to have contest at the quilt store i worked at,doing this very same thing,turning ugly into something not so ugly.It's amazing what people come up with.The other are correct when they say once you cut it up and put it with others,it's not so bad.

I actually like how this turned out! Love the stitching, I hope my new machine does that stitch as well as yours. I noticed you didn't use my ugly fabric, I knew it was too ugly! I can't imagine that one used anywhere. That one sweet one at the top with the pink and yellow flowers - I don't remember that one in the contest, (too lazy to go back and look) I actually like that one a lot.

I actually have more than 20 fabrics, so they won't all be in each block. The one on the top with the pink and yellow flowers is the one I have that started my quest for ugly fabric. It actually photographs better than it looks in person.

Thats really pretty! Another good use for ugly fabric is yo yos...the pattern kinda gets lost in the gathers so you see mostly color...

You did a great job with the quilting and keeping us entertained wondering what block you'd come up with...you're a Peach of a Person!
