How has your MAY been?

OK I surrender...please let this miserable weather month pass into oblivian.This has been the coldest, cloudiest, rainiest month I have ever seen.Don't talk to us here in New England about " global warming" because it just isn't happening.We want sunshine and warmth......pleeeeaaase!!!

Oh, well, yesterday we dug out the dogs sweater. No, it was day before yesterday. He has arthritis, and was just not moving.

At least, yesterday it got more normal in the middle of the day, and warmed up. :)

But my May, it has been GREAT. Honest. I managed to be out of the state, while it was deluged in rain, and I was in town, when my grand daughter was born!

Yep, my May has been GREAT.

Cold, cold, cold in the NorthEast. I think one day was 80, then it all disappeared. Today my tomatoes are getting rained on. They need some sun and heat.

I have been working with 2 friends in AZ to gather and preserve several old varieties of date palm. One such palm was a Samany variety of Egyptian origin. The offshoot I got from the Ag. station was up high on the palm so it had no roots to start with. I planted it in May and it sat, and sat, and sat. Usually I figure if it hasn't started growing by the end of summer, it doesn't have much chance. But it held on to a little green and I would keep checking on it and kept water going but no sign at all of any new growth. After 16 months it finally got a small new frond started out from the middle. It then flushed out with 3 good fronds but then promptly choked and the next 2 fronds were very stunted and it stopped growing again. I feared it had sung it's last hurah. Still I kept working with it. Finally, yet another year later, it started some good fronds and has kept going. It was a 2 1/2 year project, but it is now at the 3 1/2 year mark, it is a healthy young palm. I'm hoping to start seeing fruit in about 2 more years.

Country bumpkin, I'm sorry for the pain you're going through now. Sending good thoughts to you. Monday DD and I both went to the doc after days of horrible coughing and cold stuff. DD had "just" a cold (a bad one) but I had a sinus infection and got drugged up for it. The prescription decongestant was $60 and written for 20 days supply! I told the pharmacist if I take it for 20 days I'm gonna need an intervention! She gave me 5 days for $15. We also dropped of my van Monday b/c the air would not blow, hot or cold, no fan. I like this mechanic, came from a good reference. But the problem was not what he first thought and it took 4 days to get it solved, and $650. Required taking the whole dash apart. Wednesday evening he called to say to pick it up Thursday, he was on reconnecting "wire 50 of 120." Good grief! I know I could never do that job! Wednesday evening the air in the house quit! Part needs replaced, $900 job can't be done til Tuesday next week. Fortunately, it's just one unit, so only the upstairs is hot. Today a relative called to ask to "borrow" money. I laughed. Best they'll get from me is a listening ear and any advice I can offer. This is the second relative in 2 months, evidently I have some relatives who have a false idea of my fincancial situation! Hopefully when I keep saying no they'll stop calling me. At least for money. ;o)

In FL, where even inquiring about your coverage can get you dropped, it's a given, as Denita said. One of my neighbors lost her windstorm coverage after an inspection even though she has both impact glass and accordion shutters over it, because her shutters were put up before the rule that they have to have an ugly sticker on them certifying them as meeting code. She had the documentation, but on paper and that wasn't acceptable. This wasn't a new policy inspection, incidentally. There have been several scandals about how the ins cos here mandate inspections, then use them primarily for weeding. The inspectors about this time were given a quota of drops they had to make if they wanted to keep the job.

Peas are done. There were very few immature pods, and the plants were yellowing, so I yanked them up and got the rest of the pods. Not a bad harvest (Super Sugar Snap) over the last couple weeks, but it reminded me that the low yield of peas is barely worth the effort. Broccoli is toast. Between the heat and the striped worms, although I harvested all but one of the primary heads, and they were great, and the saltwater bath only brought a few worms out. The secondary smaller shoots were infested to the point where they were mostly inedible, but at least I got the primary heads before they really took hold. Thought about trying to baby the plants through and see how they did, but I almost think I'm better off yanking them, using that spot for something else, and then starting more seeds in July for a fall crop. My first planting of sweet corn is about 3' tall now, and the Trinity plants are just showing some tassels. Planted 4/30. Pole beans are blooming despite the weird curling and cupping of the leaves. I have harvested a couple peppers. Tomatoes have many green fruits, nothing ripe yet. I have a San marzano that is close. Yukon Gold potatoes are almost died back. The Purple Majesty plants are just yellowing a bit. Sweet Potatoes are plodding along, seem to be taking off of it now. Pumpkins and watermelons growing like mad, no fruit set yet. Zucchini has a single fruit set so far. onions are bulbing. I have watered, and we did finally get 3/4" of rain yesterday, (a moist upcoming weekend looks promising as well) the first decent rain of June. Still plenty of subsoil moisture thanks to the wet May, so trees and shrubs are fine, but I have had to water the veggies and flowers a bit .

It started out hot and sunny, then we opened the pool and it has rained ever since.My garden in turning into a jungle,but the moss is growing well.

I am in eastern Canada and have to agree with you all...it has been an incredibly cold and wet spring. We have even had the wood stove going this month which has never happened before! I did finally plant some veggies yesterday because it is getting so late. Many of the garden centers are having trouble keeping nice plants the cold has been so harsh on them. Looking forward to some sun....PLEASE!!

We had great weather clear blue sky days of 65-80. Cooler days in the 50's. Some much needed rain. Now the "heat" is on here...days have been in the 90's recently.

We did have high winds at the beginning of the month. Now we pray for a breeze.

We had some really nice spring days in May this year. I like it when it is cold enough to wear a sweatshirt but not too hot that I am uncomfortable. If I didn't have a nasty cold for most of May it would have been even better.

My May has been great! I spent days at the beach with DD and the grands...Our weather has been up and down, but we expect that here in Pa...Our garden and flowers are thriving and I even finished a quilt I've been working on forever.....I can't believe it's almost June.....

Extremely busy!

I used to be a SAHM..I started working for our School District..this month I worked 69 hours. Which is alot for someone who spent the last 12 years basically not working!
Some days I split shifts between two different schools to get things covered! I'm looking forward to a break soon.

Oh and our baseball commitments by Saturday will be a little less too....PHEW

medically a pita...weather not too bad but while i like warm i don't do well in hot...it's also my, dd's, bday month...last night ended on the sofa, cause it was so cold upstairs...was too lazy to close the windows, lol...tonight i will...they're saying 48 degrees...

Hectic month of May trying to get roof repairs done when we've had rain, rain, and more rain. Worrisome too, trying to help family that is unemployed. Only bright spot was having our daughter and her hubby home with us for a while. Hoping June is much better.

May has been fairly typical here. We needed rain and finally got a couple of days of rain but it was spaced out okay. I can't complain.

Days with highs around 50Â° and days it scratched at 100Â°. Mostly pretty nice though. 3rd dryest on record for this area and the month went by AWFULLY fast! Three more months and we're heading toward winter! :D Ain't I the optimist!

We've had one of the best Mays ever in Oregon. Today it reached the 90s and we turned on our AC!

Aside from weather, May has continued to be as difficult as April. We lost my 41 year old BIL from a heart attack on April 1. Since then, my FIL has had 3 heart incidents. He has an implanted pacemaker/difibulator and he's passed out 3 times because his heartbeat went to 300 BPM. The implanted difib shocked his heart back to a normal rhythm or he would not be alive right now.

April and May have taught me that life is fragile. That every second counts.
