Looking into the reality of getting a pool (Baltimore City, MD)

We live in a historic house in Baltimore City, and are once again being drawn to the idea of getting a pool. We looked into this seriously pre-recession, and ended up getting scared by how much it was getting to be.

We want a rectangular pool, with plenty of room for swimming and volleyball, and some kind of screen to keep the mosquitos at bay (while you're in and out of the pool).

We've done an initial meeting with Browning (no subcontractors, which was interesting), and have talked on the phone and gotten a basic quote from River. We have a couple more appointments set up with 2 other pool companies so far.

I would love to get some advice about screen enclosures outside of the south (especially with a historic property, but that might be too small of a niche ;)

And is there an average amount of time that needs to be spent maintaining a pool week by week? We have a hard enough time with the lawn (which hopefully we'll have very little left within the next year or two!).

Thanks,
Elsa
