Buehl: Questions about your pet center, please.

hi buehl and anyone else who wants to chime in,

1) i was wondering if you think this is an okay idea.

what if the cabinet that is turned toward the kitchen is turned toward the walkway instead? that way anyone standing at the peninsula working wouldn't have to get out of the way if someone needed something in that drawer stack.

i suppose the drawbacks are it's not as convenient for the person working to access the drawers or someone might be blocking the walkway getting something out of the drawers.

thoughts?

2) the other question is that i'm pretty sure that you do not have a decorative door on the side, correct? but did you do something special to the side anyway, like a plain panel? was there any particular decision that went into not adding a decorative door to the side?

Sorry! I've been away for the most part studying for an exam.

Anyway...in my case, the cabinet turned to face outwards is in a corner, so most of it is covered by the cabinet on the wall run. However, b/c part of of the back of it shows on the other side (it acts as filler on the other side), the back is finished to match the front AND a toekick was included on the back to match the toekick of the rest of the cabs in the kitchen...both of these were modifications my KD specified at cabinet-order time. (In the end, 27" wasn't quite wide enough to be sufficient filler, so we had to add filler b/w the cabs anyway. If I had known at cabinet order time, I would have ordered a 28" or 29" cabinet...maybe even 30")

There are two cabinets that makeup that "mini peninsula"..the one in the corner that faces "out" and the one next to it that faces "in". As you can see, there are 2 decorative doors on the back of the cabinet facing "in" (the one on the end).

There is also a decorative door on the end of the peninsula. You can see it if you look closely here (there's a black outlet on it).

if you come back, do you have any thoughts on the first question? not sure if i am opening up a can of worms turning it out toward the aisle.... TIA! :)

KBSpider: Lol! You will have more room than I have! That space, or "pinch point" as we like to call it (courtesy of someone on GW), is one of the things our KD messed up on...at least indirectly. Originally, we were supposed to have 42" - a nice aisle width b/c of the refrigerator. However, our KD really made a mess of the measurements in our kitchen (long, long, long story) plus we had to build out the cooktop wall in our kitchen by 6"....so we ended up with...32-1/8"...yes, that's right, less than 33"! I was upset initially about it until someone on GW reminded me that we most doorways are around 32"...so in normal use it wouldn't be an issue. The difference here is that we have a refrigerator that opens into that aisle & there is not enough room for someone to pass by when the refrigerator doors are open and someone is rummaging around in it. In reality, it's rare that someone wants to get by when someone else is using the refrigerator. Do I wish I had more space there? Absolutely! Can I live with it? Yes.... It's one of those things that I had to "make do with" b/c the cabinets were already onsite and I wanted a peninsula that seated two comfortably and would work as another workspace and staging place for food for the DR.

Yes, Ni_2006, that is what I did. I bought them both at FaucetDirect.com as they had the best deal overall (cost + S&H). The Duostrainer has been great (actually both have been....I also have one on the Prep Sink). The strainer itself is very heavy duty and works like I always thought one should work! We always has the cheap ones you buy in the grocery store...but this one is much better! If you buy from FuacetDirect, be sure to buy from this site, not ImprovementDirect as FaucetDirect has a better return policy (or did when I bought mine). Yes both sites are owned by the same people and have the same products & prices, but FaucetDirect has the better return policy...go figure! HTH!

No, but I think we used too much water to start with. My husband, genius that he might be, went dense when he decided that the hose would be quicker than a spray bottle. Winded up soaking the tree even with the mist attachment on. When we went to flock, the tree was soaked but we still misted the flock to activate it. Next day, the tree was still wet. Think it took a week to dry. But, between the ornaments and flock, it's bent out of shape. Here's two pics I just took. It's been flocked since 12/3.
