Traditional or ? Help with identifying the style

The day is almost here. Tomorrow the kitchen cabs and a wall will be demolished. Not sure if cabs will be installed tomorrow or not, but I'm just about rid of my ugly kitchen cabinets...70s style cabs...yukky poo!

Below are a couple of knobs we like,but I'm not sure if they are too decorative for our traditional kitchen.

We fell in love with the Ribbon and Reed style. That is the first one shown. The other is the Bella. We like it, but near as much as the R&B.

Would like to know your thoughts on whether they are a good choice.

I like the ribbon and reed very well! it is a little busy but the second set is just not as exciting

Historically this type of house is called "Medieval French" followed by "Chateau" or "Manor House". It is commonly called "French Provincial" but since it is usually a combination of features from several centuries, high end architects call it "French Inspired". Ok, working on this wall with 68” wide buffet. The art on the wall is obviously too small, but wanted a frame of reference. It is 25”h x 37”w. Should buffet lamps stay or go? Art horizontal or vertical? Ceilings are 9ft. Need to keep mahogany dining room, but trying to lighten things up. Love the suggestions and ideas from this group. Thanks for any input.

Thank you all for responding. Your comments will point me in the right direction and the 50’s – 60’s era sounds right. The furniture is a hand-me-down set which we never really liked.* We finally bought new furniture and now need to get rid of this set. If we can’t find a taker I plan to list it on Facebook Marketplace, but wanted to be accurate in my description. * Hubby bought his first home in the mid-80’s. This set belonged to the previous owners, who were elderly. To KW: The finish is shiny and does not appear to be painted. General FYI: I cannot find any markings or manufacturer name. There are some numbers stenciled on the backs of a couple of pieces, but no specific name.

Thanks for your comments. :) It seems that I have to stick to these furniture pieces for a while, though. This is why I tried to make an effort to style around them, as I don't have any other furnitures yet. Last week I spent a lot of time figuring out which interior desing styles could they be included - now I know why I had such a hard time with this. :D The thing is, we are at the finishing steps of our low-budget and DIY renovating project. I spent weeks to decide on the style, which would suit to our lifestyle, personality and the house itself. I decided on "modern rustic", and I planned completly different kind of sofa and dining table. But my husband got these furnitures at a very affordable price, and he loves the sofa (as it is super comfortable). I love cherry wood. So I was wondering if I could modify my plans to include these items, or keep them only temporary (though I think I will keep the table - with different legs of course). Though all of our hard surfaces are fixed now, so we can only choose the finish of the wood floors. Sometimes I think they can be used in a transitional setup, and that I should buy the other furnitures accordingly.

Ribbon and reed is a very old detail from furnit ure, silverware, etc., and it's basically neoclassical. Think the French Louis, Empire style, Pompeii, etc. It's generally pretty formal.

I don't think the history of the design should determine your decision, but I do think it would seem a little odd in say, a country Victorian k itchen.

The question is what does "traditional" mean to you? Does it mean unadorned Calvinist or Shaker pure simplicity? Or does it mean early 20th Century? Or Olde World?

As the others have said, your choices are classic, known patterns, so from that point of view they could be heirlooms, and by dint of that "traditional". But do they go in your kitchen? Do you like the way they look? They'd look downright silly on Italian lacquer. On classic, American style cabinets either design should look just fine.

Thanks to all of your for your thoughts on this. I'm really not sure on what my personal style is. I seem to go between what is classic and what is ornate. For example: I may like a romantic,elegant,and formal bedroom. But, in rest of the house it could be a mix of both, but mostly classic.
Now does this make me "unique"..smile?

I have a hard time with labels.
I take those tests to see what my style is and it is
different every time. Even 4 minutes after the first
time I took the test.

I look at your beautiful hardware and feel that to put a
lable on them ruins it. It does not matter the style.
They are gorgeous.

Do you love them?

I myself have trouble with choosing what style I am.
The entire label thing, is just confusing for me.
Am I traditional because I love my favorite antique nesting
tables? Or am I rococco because I love this funky chair?
Maybe I am country because I live in the country. No it
must be urban because I love my contempoary martini
glasses. Wait, maybe that is Contemporary? Or Could I be
Old World? Because I have this old world armoire from
1890 inherited from my husbands great great grandfather.
Yes, I love it. Maybe Early American, British Colonial,
Indian, or could I be Mission, Tropical, Paris
chic, Dubai urban, Chinese red, Swedish blue....

What about my area rug;s. Classic? Romantic? Shabby Chic?
or Cottage? Or maybe I am this pathetic title called
Transitional which really means inbetween.

I am updated Bradybunch. This refers to dog hair mixed
with teen boy smell, a splash of spilled pixi nai;l polish
color and shabby chic toys all over.

~Hee Hee sorry I am not help at all on the hardware.
My answer is pick the one you love the most. And if you
are having trouble chose them both. Change them in 6
months to give yourself a little pick me up.
I believe that a label is confining. Do what you love and
make your own label.

If I have to choose it is the first one. Ornate
but oh so lovely.

I have "antique" brass pulls that are fluted with fruit at both ends. Looks ornate by itself but installed it became part of the background. I think the hardware with smooth or flat surfaces stand out more than those that are grooved or reeded and R&B will be less flashy than Bella when installed. I'd go with R&B.

Can I offer another view? Think about touching the lovely knobs and handles with traces of chocolate on your hands and then having to clean them off. Which will be easier for you?

As for style, there are factual style descriptions -- as marcolo said -- but today these are all interpreted so they don't really matter except to architects and decogeeks like me.

Both choices are very pretty. The first pair will give the kitchen a slightly more formal look and the second will suggest a more country feeling.

But either will look good with most cabinet styles. I'd like to see each IRL because sometimes there are distinctions your eye catches that might tip the choice. Both are really lovely.

Guess, I'm not by myself in not knowing my style. Looking at images on some sites, they will describe a knob or pull as being traditional and on another site, it may be called transitional. Don't know if they know either. So, guess we are not alone in thinking personal style can be confusing.

An update on kitchen. They are in process of tearing the old cabinets out now! YEA!!!
