Sharon,
I'm in! I have a plan and can hardly wait to try it out. This time I'm going to try dying and painting my own fabric! That, plus some fused applique and maybe even some new free motion quilting patterns, will make this a serious challenge for me. We'll see how it goes...

I'm absolutely inundated. They are everywhere, and my roses are in the middle of another flush at the moment. I've had JBs for the last 2 weeks, and they are so thick that they hit me in the head when I'm outside painting or gardening. My neighbors now think I'm the "crazy plant lady with Tourette's" after watching me whack them out of the plants and into the bucket, all the while laughing like a maniac & spewing four-letter-words at the ones that get away. I'm thinking it's only a matter of time before I see a video of myself on youtube. By the way, nothing chemical has worked. Not the grub treatments to the lawn, Sevin, Merit, garlic-water spray, soapy-water spray, zero. The only thing that works is annihilation via thumb and forefinger. It's a lot more satisfying, too!

Its going to be very warm here tommorrow, 87F!! Looks like we will have 4 days in the 80s in a row (monday-thursday). So far the lowest temp of the month is 44F and the lowest in the forecast is 44F. The lows for tonight and tommorrow night wont even get out of the 60s! Greg... Glad you like my camellia and the new spots for my staghorn ferns. The butia is growing slow, but it is really healthy. Laura... Cant wait to see some pics of those plumeria blooms. My divine has an inflo comming up and its really liking the sun too (but is burned a little from the heat). I thought that my area would be cooled down really significantly, but I guess not because we are in the 80s. I saw 3 bees and many other wasps out today as well as a moth, a butterfly, and I noticed my variegated vincas are blooming now. All the street trees (bradford pears) are blooming now and the forests are getting green. Spring is here for sure, but I think this weather is more summer-like. 87F is about average for july in my area. I cant believe you got to 90F already. Sounds like beach weather to me! And you can tell the birds are making there nests now since half my spanish moss is gone. So I had to take the rest off the tree for now and I will put it back on when there nesting season is over. I really hope there arent any frosts, its still kind of early to have all these plants out, but its just so warm! The AC is now on! Good luck and enjoy the heat!

LindaOH, Thanks for the link to your table runners. You've been quite the 'winner' lately......the Shop-Hop and guild raffle. You go girl! Teresa, Is Buttonhole and Blanket Stitch basically the same thing? (please forgive my ignorance) Jeane, Completely understandable.....no stress! And, you can sign up for any of the next sessions...at any time. lol I'm easy to please. @:) We enjoyed watching the Curling events during the Olympics, I'm surprised I haven't seen this listed on any of our sports channels. bummer! Tara, Did you end up doing the Herky Jerky pattern? I'll post April-June in a few days. I realize the weather is getting so the garden gals can get out and play rather than playing inside as much, but.....think about it. @:) SharonG/FL

I had intended to do my spring first, but ended up with the summer. Guess I will do spring next.

Great minds think alike Kate, I'm going to use the fabric we dyed at the retreat last year.

I plan to continue with the monthly table runners. It won't be a new challenge, I will try to find ways to tweak the pattern each month.

I will try to come up with something. I have a summer idea but also could use a table runner. Hmmm. I'll use a summer theme somehow.

I didn't get my Jan-March Seasonal Challenge posted until now and couldn't find that post- but here it is. It's called herky jerky applique.
For summer I'm doing red, white, and blue stars wall hanging. The same technique, but different pattern.

I have a book by Kathleen Parman Called do the Herky Jerky.
Instead of doing a satin or blanket stitch when you applique, you do a kind of circle stitch. Or go in a circle pattern. For me it is alot easier than the others because I don't feel I do well with those. I guess that is what I really need to practice.

Tara, So it's a form of free motion quilting?

Ladies, you will be so proud of me! My stained glass shell is now ready for the border. I think I was supposed to layer this before sewing on the binding, but I'm sure glad I didn't.....it is uuuuuugly on the backside. It's only 10 1/2" by 15 1/2" ...... nice to be this far along after fizzling out last time.

I am stalled with my project. Used some fabric from my stash and now want to match the color but but so far not found. Have time to keep looking as the main part is done. Jayne

HELP.......so, I have it to the point of quilting. I've never done a close meander, but I'm thinking that's what this needs in the white part. Maybe stitch close to the black first? It's about 17"X22" at this point but I haven't squared up the borders yet.....I think one is a bit wider than the others....it was left over from something. I really didn't want to post until it was completed, but would like your thoughts on the quilting part.

Sharon, I think the close meander would look great but I think you should consider staying with the seaside theme and going with a shell or a wave quilting pattern instead. You could do a wide meander in the green part.

I'm hoping to complete the handquilting over the week-end. I have part of the left side done using the single clam shell pattern. When I get it done, I'll see if it needs anything more, but I'm really liking how this is turning out! Sewing on both sides of the black bias was not the most fun.....

Looking forward to your work Sharon. I like what you have done sofar. I am "into" browns and auqa this year, have some blocks started but got stalled.
I am having a problem finding the right fabric for my Apr.-June hanging. Have the center done but need a certain purple to finish. Hope to go shopping soon. Got a Gift certificate for my BD that is burning a hole in my pocket but the shop is about 45 miles away.

Question on hanging tabs.....I read somewhere that they should be the same fabric as the binding. But I want to make them the same as the green border.....also, should they be sewn into the back or the front when sewing on the binding? I've used sleeves in the few wall hangings I've made, so don't know if where the tabs are placed is an issue or not. Comments?

I am no expert on the subject but when I have used tabs I have sewn them in when I have sewn down the the back of the binding, rolled them up and hand tacked them to the top along the front of the tab.
When I make a wall hanging I always put on a sleeve even when I use tabs as it gives an alternative for hanging. Jayne

How is everyone doing? Still 'hanging' in there? Mine is done....at least as much as I'm going to do at this time. Needing to start the next one as part of August, all of Sept and part of Oct will be lost for me in regards to the Seasonal Challenge. I am really pleased with this one! I don't have a picture yet, but will try and get one up later today.

Here it is....my first attempt at stained glass.

It's 17 1/2" x 22 1/2" and the peach for the inside of the shell is Fairy Frost.

Thanks, Linda. It won't take you long to get your seasonal tablerunner done once you get to it.

Tara, Thank you.....you can do it! After finally getting it in my head, it was easy! You'll grasp it faster than I did.

Geri, You can make one, too. Basically, fuse the pieces, then put on fusible bias tape and sew the bias tape down. However, sewing on that black narrow tape was a challenge for my eyes. @:)

Jayne, I can see why you weren't able to keep your flowers long! That is sooooo cute! A job well done!

Sharon, Nice job on the stained glass shell. I was into making stained glass wall hangings a few years ago and found it fun. Your quilting is great and colors a nice.

Is Christmas a season? That's what my next one is so it looks like Autumn will end up getting done the last 3 months.

I don't know how everyone else feels, but with all I have going on until I get back home in late October, I think I'll postpone the next 2 seasons, unless someone wants to take it over. I don't have the time (or energy) to do something that doesn't really need to be done at this point. I'm thinking after the end of year holidays. What are your thoughts?

My season two project will be lucky to make it by season three. I agree that maybe we should all plug along and post later in the year with no deadlines. We all have life getting in the way, don't we.
