Keeping plants cool on deck?
Comments (3)If you can affix something to the building itself, maybe you could set up a square of shade cloth? You could probably figure out something that easily fold away during the winter and cool or shady days. This is just an example of what I found when I googled "shade sail"...See MoreKool Deck
Comments (1)Hi: I am also exploring the option of a Kool Deck coating. I read where kool Deck is better on a newer concrete surface but not on an older prexisting concrete deck. Is this true? Lastly, Is applying Kool Deck something I can do myself? My neighbor seems to think it will be easy enough, just preasure wash the old concrete and apply with a long handled roller. He's saying let's get a couple more guys together and knock it out on a weekend. Is this a fairly easy project? Comments (6)DH has used a few different products over the years, kool deck has become a generic term for sprayed on, knock down texture. It is cooler because the foot isn't in 100% contact with the deck. We use X cel deck products now, happy with the longevity. It is 3 coats, the top being a very heavy color coat. Their new top coat, termed IR, is much cooler than their original top coat which is very important for us here in the desert. No chipping reported by clients so far, been in use for 4 years. Used it on our own pool this summer as well. We want to stone the deck, but haven't found a stone we can walk on/agree on........ thats another story. We have had problems in the past with other spray deck brands and eliminated them from use, they are no longer on the market anyway. Keep in mind your area's weather plays a huge part in success, as well as surface prep. I would suggest asking your PB to see other jobs he's done. Hope this helps, Barb...See MoreKool Decking
Comments (2)Most concrete cleaners will work, and a little soap and water works well for basic cleaning. Cascade, dawn dish soap, tide in water ect. Just dont get to much in pool. I wouldnt seal it, you will lose the Kool part of your kool decking as it wont absorb water well. Here is a link that might be useful: Kool Deck Cleaner...See Moreekkomom
