Urinary crystals or stones caused one of my male cats to do something similar -- I'm glad you're taking him in tomorrow.

Eating the daisies may be a clue. Cats are known to eat grass to invoke vomiting when they feel sick. Sometimes, cats will eat a small amount of grass apparently for theraputic reasons. You rarely witness such behavor when cats can run free outside, because they will handle such needs for themselves and you may not see it happen.

But, peeing on the table - nasty. I hope he did not scratch and try to bury it too. Maybe tabby was marking the territory around the flowers.

Bringing him to the vet for a check is a good first step. However, I would suspect the two events of the flowers and the "accidents" are indeed related. I had a renter last fall and my male cat began to pee on the clothes she occasionally left on the floor. In my 12 years with him, he never did anything remotely like that and the issue has never resurfaced now that I'm home. A change in environment, the scent (even very remote) of a rival, etc. can cause such behavior. Who knows what scent might be on the daisies, in the soil, on the pot? Plus a table top is a very unusual place for a cat to want to relieve himself. I'd toss the flowers immediately if I were you and observe the cat closely for awhile. Please let us know the outcome!

If the flowers are in soil, the cats might use it as a litter box. I've even had cats poop in plants and cover it up. What a smell! Of course the plants had to be thrown out. .And inappropriate urination in a male cat is always worrisome, possible male UTI from those "crystals". Very deadly when they get it, see what your vet says.Good luck to your kitty!

Yes, my cat and my daughter's cat starting urinating in odd places when they had crystals. I'm glad you're taking him to the vet. I hope he feels better soon.

Called the vet, and she agreed with Marita that it might be a behavioral issue rather than indication of an illness. I removed the flowers the day before this started. She recommended that I watch the cats (and the table) for 24-48 hours and see what happens. If the problem persists, I can try to separate the cats to determine which one is doing it.

Fortunately, nothing happened overnight!

Cats are such interesting--and exasperating--animals, aren't they?! alisande, do also clean the table with an enzyme cleaner so he's not tempted to add to his own smell. BTW, here are my own little stinkers (the black one in particular):

Gorgeous cats, Marita! My male is black, too. He and the others have been behaving themselves (at least with respect to inappropriate peeing) since I first posted. I think the most likely explanation is what Marita mentioned above. Before I received the pot of flowers, it spent a day and night in my DS and DIL's house, where it was undoubtedly checked out (in great detail) by their cats, Oscar and Emmy. Pogo, on my dining table, was probably marking his territory.

On the other end of the scale, I bought a purse at a garage sale recently. I'm not going to keep it, after trying it out, and am going to put it in a garage sale the neighbours are going to have.

Anyway, all of my 3 cats take turns curled up on it sleeping, or rolling on it, laying on it. Either the previous owner had a very friendly cat or carried catnip home in it, I'm thinking!

I once bought a big black leather shoulder-bag purse. Every time I set it down, one of my cats would go over and claw it up. It got to looking very shabby, had to throw it out.

did you see on the news the overweight cat the owner had to turn in cause she was an elder (80's) and couldn't lift the 40lb cat! he's now in kitty biggest loser, and is in foster care...think he'd already lost wieght...his poor paw/legs were bent!

My sister's 16 year old cat who lives with me just started going in the "wrong" place. 3 times now I have woken up to a surprise on the living room floor and basement floor and a few times she has peed on the basement floor, once in the kitchen and 2 times in the hallway. Not just spray but a flood. My sister is taking her to the vet this weekend.

I think besides being a little senile she might be diabetic because she seems to be drinking a lot of water, eats a lot but seems frail now. Her urine doesn't have that cat pee smell either. the litter box is down the basement and where she goes in the hallway is in the same location the litter box is just on a different floor. I am at my wits end because I don't want my house to smell like cat urine.

Litter boxes are clean and she still does go down to use the litter box. I am thinking of getting a new litter box and putting it on the landing. Maybe her bones are old and sore and she may be finding it difficult to go down the basement stairs now.

Chloe is a sweet,loving cat so it will be hard if she has to be put down.

Lucy my other cat Lucy will do everything in her power to get at a certain plant to eat if she is not feeling well. Makes her get sick right away.

Cherryfizz, our elder cat has the same issue. She drinks a lot and our vet says its because her kidneys are not fully functioning, which makes her drink more...and pee more. She has arthritis and when she hurts, she won't go in the litterbox. We found a huge box with a low entrance for her, and even changed litter because she also doesn't like getting it on her feet. For her box, we use a crystal litter that doesn't clump. Still, if she doesn't get her pain pill or she throws it up, she will be in pain and pee on the office floor. She gets a quarter of a 50 MG tramadol pill every morning. She puts up a fight - my husband has to hold her while I stick it down her throat. But it has made a world of difference. She gets around so much easier.
