Announcing a Boy block swap

Here are the guidelines for the Boy Block swap.

1) Sign up will last until April 5, 2008.

All packages must be postmarked before August 1, 2008.

Please include with your blocks a self-addressed envelope with the return postage in stamps. Please place all blocks in a ziplock bag with your address or mine inside. Swap packages have been torn in the past.

2) These will be 12 finished blocks. The theme is any kind of motorized vehicle on a tan or light brown background (these are boys we're talking about).

Blocks will be done in sets of 6. You make 6, keep 1 for yourself and send the other 5 to me. If we have enough swappers you won't get any of your own blocks back. Please sew or pin a small piece of paper with your name on it to each block, it will help me make sure you are not getting your own blocks back.

3) Please sign up on this thread. Include your block idea and if you want to do 1 or 2 sets. If you choose to do to sets they must be different (i.e. 1 set of tractors and 1 set of cars). Then drop me an email. When the sign up is over I will email you all my mailing address.

4) If for some reason you can not finish the swap please try to find a replacement or contact me imediately so I can try to find one for you.

As a side, if you have trouble finding or designing a block I'd be happy to design one for you in EQ.

I don't know how to identify these components from the serial numbers. What are these engines, D400, D600, F engines what? Guess that they are both D400s, on the magneto plate will be the part number for the correct flywheel to use with that engine. There are, I think, 3 different flywheels for D400 engines, they are not enterchangeable. Walt Conner

Yo Kay---Got mine yesterday late in the day. Love them all. Everyone did such a great job. I placed them all out on the bed and they look so pretty together. I think i will make more of my blocks to go all around the outside and fill the center area with the group blocks. Something like that. Or maybe a large appliqued block in the center?? Fun to play. We leave for Montana Tuesday, so very happy they arrived before we left.

Ladies it is just me that is holding things up. I swear something did not want me to finish this swap. But I did. It went in the mail priority this morning. First my machine that does a zig zag went capput and needs to go to the shop. So I couldn't do the block I wanted. Then my grandmother died and we spent some time in Oklahoma. Then we tried to buy a house, that fell thru, and we found another. So we moved. School started, football for my boys started. My husband buried my sewing machines in my sewing room with all the junk from the move and it took me almost two weeks to get his mess cleaned up.I finally found it and was going to start working on my blocks and my kids got strep last week. Then DH decided to build a deck this weekend when I was going to work on them and drop them in the mail on Monday. So I had to help him cause the boards were to long to hold by himself. Then on Monday the cable messed up and didn record anything. I spent part of the day on the phone on hold and the other part at the cable office. It still isn't fixed but they said someone will be out to fix it on Thursday. I finally got to work on them yesterday and whipped them out. But ran out of background fabric for one and a half so a few squares are a shade lighter than the rest. That really ticked me off. I thought I had calculated right. But anyway they are in the mail and I am home with another sick child. I think I just need a vactation on a deserted island or something. Sorry it took me so long and you all had to wait. Amy

This has been a lot of fun. Not fancy or complicated but working in the different parts of the family's old jeans and the various prints was just plain fun. Special thanks go to Sue who shared some delightful animal and child theme prints. They really added a lot. I'm mailing this to the boys on Monday and can hardly wait until spring to see them again. Backing is just blue fleece that I turned over the edge and blanket stitched in place.

Tan, beige, brown, just so long as it's not floral or girl-ly. Solid is find but so are prints.

I'll fill in what ever seems lacking after the sign ups are over. In order to have enough for a successful swap we need to have at least 6 people sign up for 2 sets, or even more peolpe with single sets.

As I recall from raising two of my own, the boy mommies are very busy and may not have the time to participate, but come on Grandmas, Step Up!

No one wants to make that special little boy in their life a wonderful little quilt?

Georgia--can we just do the swap with the ones who have signed up? It will give us a great start and we'll all have that many less blocks to add.

I agree with Dianne, if no one else signs up we could just make 4 of each kind of block (2 sets) and then everyone would have 8 different blocks...I'd rather do that then nothing at all.

Sounds fine to me. Let's give those others the last couple of days. On the 6th we'll set the final guidelines as far as numbers and what I'll contribute.

OK. We've got 5 people doing 2 sets each. That means you'll get back 10 blocks different from your own.
