I hope you love it, Rhizo! And I hope you still love it a month from now. I went through many mattresses in 2006, returning them when they quickly developed problems. Fortunately, my money was refunded each time (several different stores).

What did you end up buying?

Haven't had a new mattress for us in a few years (we did buy one for the guest room last year), but I remember how hard the decision. Wow, new sheets. Even freshly washed sheets make me want to go to bed early and just nest, if it wasn't so much work I'd do them about every other day, with a duvet and a feather bed cover to wrestle with, I don't.

Question to all: If customers can return a mattress after using them, how do I know I am getting a brand new never used one when I buy?

A couple years ago we got one, and we could exchange it if it wasn't right, within a month or two. I couldn't sleep worth a darn, and I looked at the tag and it was Firm when I wanted Plush.

We exchanged it.
We're having problems with it again and have had, for a while. Me, more so than hubby hates it. Lumpy, the filling shifts all over the place so that little mountains are under the covers.

When we put it on it's side to move out of the way of the ceiling fan to turn it, the filling falls to the bottom.

I filed a complaint report, and even took pictures. Haven't heard anything yet from the manufacturer. They have a 10-year warranty.

Hellion, I was told that the stores are not permitted to resell a mattress that was returned. I think they would have a problem selling a mattress with a big dip in it anyway. :-)

Hi....I had to meet with a client this morning so couldn't report in first thing.

I think that the mattress is going to be fine, but will take some getting used to. It's pretty firm, but has a lot of fluff going on in the pillow top! And thank goodness that we got low profile foundations or I would need a springboard to get into bed. Even at that, the bed is a lot higher than I've been used to. The pillow top makes it a bit diffucult to move around in bed, but I can learn to maneuver.

No achy hips or shoulders, and no tossing and turning last night! That's pretty great in and of itself.

Both beds are Kentwood Pillowtop Luxury Firm and made by Beautyrest. Great warranty and a year's sleep testing.

All in all, after only one night, I'd give the mattress a thumb's up.

I'm glad you're enjoying your new mattress, Rhizo. I recently bought a 3-inch latex topper for my side of our old, extra-firm mattress and it took me a few nights to figure out how to turn over more easily. :) (Btw, I have a mild allergy to latex but have not had any itchiness with this.) It has made a big difference in my back pain and overall stiffness in the morning.

Alisande, do you mind telling us what kind of mattress you bought?

Could a husband who enjoys time spent between the sheets ...

... possibly be induced to help shift the materials that cover the sheets providing warmth, from time to time? And shift them back, after sheeting re-arranged?

Hadn't had a new mattress in years ... and when moved to uncle's farm nine years ago (after having slept most nights in his bed for about a year before that while I was making the place look lived in) began sleeping on a mattress that was Lord knows how many years old at that time.

Still smooth and not lumpy on top, or noticeable, below that, and I can go to sleep in only a few minutes, most every night ...

... so I'm happy as a clam with my bedding arrangements.

Plus having no aches and pains to work around.

Sjerin, I've been thinking about buying a latex topper to replace my used up memory foam topper. I see that there are generally three levels of firmness offered. Which level of firmness did you buy and do you like it?

Boy, foam was something I really stayed away from. My husband purchased a topper some time ago and I hated it!

Jasdip, if bad mattress you purchased is the same brand I just bought, please don't tell me. Haha!

Everyone is right about how high the mattresses are now and that I am 5' 7" (I have shrunk!) and my husband is 6 ft. Good thing that our dog can seriously jump - or we would be adding a ramp to our already small bungalow.

Fun2Be--I think I ordered the firmest one (I'm out of town, so can't check,) since the less dense ones break down quicker. To be honest, I'm a little tired and not remembering, so let me check on that. Hopefully I can do so tomorrow. I have a "thing" about chemicals so that is why I went with the pure latex.

I wanted the low-profile foundation. Hubby wasn't sure why I specified it, but he got the advantage of it right away. Love it!
