make urgly fence more attractive, any idea?
Comments (3)This fence really bothers you doesn't it ? For a quick fix, I would paint it. For a slower fix, the trellis is good idea. My sister has wire, its just a big cross, like an 'X' across each panel of the fence, and she has grown a twining vine up it. It looks lovely, she has a Trachelospermum jasminoides vine which is quite fast growing, where I live, and the flowers are fragrant. I like the blackboard idea, I have done that at a place I lived. Its easy and cheap and young children love it, sitting there playing schools, and you get to see there lovely pictures on the board. Heaven. Hope you come up with something nice for your fence. Comments (9)The house as built has a low profile. The odd retaining wall/planter makes it look even shorter. That is not the only issue. The wall is rustic while the house is classic. I would remove it first thing. The brick in nice, let more of it show. The house is dominated by horizontal lines. You do not need the addition of shaped hedges. I would remove them. Leave the shrubs on the corner. Nice natural shaped shrubs can be nice at the foundation. BTW, it looks like most shrubs are planted much too close to the house. When you replace, bring them forward more. No need to replace the path as it is not broken. If you have extra funds to throw around you could widen the steps a bit. There is little contrast between the roof and the brick. For that reason I would paint the fascia much lighter. Deeper beds will make the house look less confined. The roof looks new but if you stay in the house long enough I'd suggest darker. What is your growing zone?...See Morelooking for ideas to make the front of our new cottage more appealing.
Comments (14)in addition to the other suggestions already made about long raised flower bed in front and fixing the steps, I think the house would look nice painted white with charcoal grey trim around the new windows. If you have room, add a flower box under the window at the right. It should go the full width of the window. It could be terracotta colored with red geraniums and green trailing plants or else coordinate the plants in the flower box with the colors of the new plants in the gray stone raised bed....See MoreIdeas to convert exterior of beach cottage to more modern minimalist?
Comments (3)Check out this house with shou sugi ban: I like the color of the deck and the railing they uses. There are more pictures on Houzz for ideas on landscaping as well. I like their use of rain chains. Do you have room for a lap pool?...See Moreles917
