More about neighbors

We had a surprise party for my Dad's 80th birthday today. A childhood friend of his gave a little speech. He was reminiscing about the neighbors on their street "Remember the Jones? Remember the Smiths?" (well actually it was more like "Remember the Joneskis? Remember the Smithskis?") and after naming several families my dad stood up and said "Of course I remember them all. We had the first telephone on the street. I had to deliver phone messages to all of them!"

I'm 40 and when I was a little girl in the 70s I used to sometimes stay with my aunt, my dad's sister who lived in the house they grew up in and I remember she still had neighbors next door without a phone that she took calls for.

That's one way to get to know your neighbors a little better lol.

My mom's family used to have a two-holer outhouse that they shared with other families. I never want to get to know my neighbors that well.
