Do you have a really good homemade donut recipe?

I bought some really good bread/pizza flour a couple weeks ago and hubby wants me to make him some donuts. I want to make yeast donuts...with a glaze. Not a heavy sweet glaze but a light glaze.

Do you have a good recipe for homemade donuts?

I haven't made these but they sound very good and easy too.

Melt In Your Mouth Doughnuts (Made With Canned Biscuits!)

1 ten count can Texas style doughnuts (or your preference, just not flaky layers)

1 Cup Sugar
1 1/2 T cinnamon
1 stick margarine, melted
Vegetable Oil For Frying

Pour oil into skillet to the depth of a little less than 1/2 an inch and heat on medium to medium high for about five minutes. In a bowl, melt margarine. In a separate bowl, combine cinnamon and sugar.

Using a plastic bottle cap, cut the center out of each biscuit. Drop dough into hot oil, watching carefully and turning when golden. Once doughnuts are golden on both sides, remove to paper towel lined plate. Repeat until all dough is cooked, including doughnut holes.

Dip both sides of each doughnut into melted margarine, then press both sides into cinnamon sugar mixture. Serve warm.
Quick and Easy Jelly Filled Doughnuts 1 can biscuits (make sure you don't get the flaky layers type) 1 can store bought frosting (vanilla, so you can tint it) Vegetable oil Jam, jelly, or preserves Sprinkles Pour oil to a depth of about 1/2 " in a large skillet. Heat on medium to medium high for several minutes, until oil is good and hot. Drop biscuits into oil and turn when they brown, this will happen very quickly. After they are browned on both sides, remove to paper towel lined plate. Place jam into bag equipped with icing tip. You can also use a syringe or just use the jelly bottle (if you got the squeeze variety). Stick the tip into a doughnut and gently squeeze. Repeat with all doughnuts. Place 1/2 can of frosting into bowl and add a few drops of your favorite food coloring. Stir well. Heat in microwave for about thirty to forty five seconds, to make a glaze. Dip the top of each doughnut into the glaze and set aside to dry. Top with sprinkles.

Here's the recipe I make for Borscht. The Dh hates beets so I don't get to make it very often. This recipe is adapted from Mennonite Foods & Folkways from South Russia, by Norma Jost Voth. Serves 8-12. Ingredients 1 1/2 lbs boneless beef chuck or stew beef, cut into bite size chunks (I actually find that what grocery store label stew beef is very chewy (rubbery). I like to use a little better cut of meat.) 1/2 cup flour 3 quarts (12 cups) beef broth 3 medium - large beets, cooked, peeled, and diced or shredded 1 tablespoon vinegar 1/2 cup tomato paste 1 tablespoon sugar 4 tablespoons butter 2 large carrots, peeled and shredded or diced 1 onion, chopped 3 medium potatoes, cooked and cubed 1/2 small cabbage, sliced thin or shredded 2 garlic cloves, minced 1 bay leaf 1 tablespoon chopped parsley Dill weed to taste Black Pepper to taste Sour cream Dredge the beef in the flour. Melt butter in a stock pot (Dutch oven) and add beef; brown all sides of beef. In the stock pot add beets, salt, vinegar, tomato paste and sugar; stir. Add carrots and onion and sautÃÂ© until onions are translucent. Add beef broth, and all remaining ingredients except sour cream and simmer for 20 minutes. The borscht should be pleasantly tart but not sour. If sour, add another tablespoon of sugar and / or carrots until desired flavor is reached. Stir and let rest for 15 minutes (heat off). Place in individual bowls and top each with a dollop of sour cream.

Sol, that's basically the same recipe I was mentioning. Since I was doing this at home for a guest, I left out the coffee and used just enough milk to cook the pumpkin and other ingredients. That got rid of that nasty grainy textures. Then I put it in the fridge so my guest could use it like a syrup. She used double-strength brewed coffee and warmed the half-and-half in the microwave whenever she wanted a cup. Then she buried the whole thing in whipped cream. She was more after the pumpkin and milk than the coffee, so she was happy. The rest of use could then drink plain black strong coffee, so we were happy. It worked. The base tends to get a little funky after three days, though. At the store, I just did it with the espresso machine for each drink. Much easier. Barnmom, I forgot to tell you that I have selective amnesia about that topic. These days I am simply a picky consumer.

My family loves my chili and I have to make a big pot so I can share it with everyone. 1 large onion 1 or 2 or 3 cloves of garlic LOL bay leaf 2 large cans whole tomatoes 2 cans of red kidney beans - rinsed 1-2 pounds ground beef -lean or medium 1 red or green bell pepper diced 1 container of fresh mushrooms chili powder Frank's Hot Sauce I start out by browning the meat and draining off the fat. Saute onions, garlic, bell pepper until soft in pot you are going to cook the chili in. Add browned/drained meat Add the cans of tomatoes - break up tomatoes with a fork Add the beans Add bayleaf Salt and pepper Add the chili powder - I tend to use 1/2 the bottle because I like the taste but you can use less - whatever your taste Simmer with lid off for about 30 minutes. Add sliced mushrooms and some hot sauce if you find you need it spicier or hotter Simmer for another 30 minutes with lid off until you get the required thickness. I like thick chili so tend to cook it longer. Start out with less chili powder and taste it a few times as the chili simmers to see if you would like a more chili taste. I always add more. You can also dice up a jalapeno chili if you would like more heat or use red chili flakes. My chili ends up being a dark red brick colour. Ladle into bowl and top with shredded cheddar cheese and a dollop of sour cream and a crusty roll on the side. I make a meatless chili too by using zuchini instead of meat. This is the one I have used many times. It is yummy plain or with a fruit topping. We never have enough left to freeze so I can't answer that question. Melted Butter 9" Springpan (coat lightly with butter) Mix all nuts and vanilla wafer crumbs with melted butter and press in the buttered spring pan, trying to line the sides as much as possible about 1 1/2" up the sides of the pan, set aside. Filling 1 1/2 lb. Cream Cheese 1 1/3 C. Sugar 5 Large Eggs 16 oz. Sour Cream 1/4 C. Flour 2 tsp. Vanilla 2 tsp. Lemon Juice All above ingredients should be at room temperature before your begin. Methods/steps Start by beating the cream cheese until light and fluffy. Keep the mixer on a low setting throughout the beating and mixing process. Add the sugar a little at a time and continue beating until creamy. Add one egg at a time and beat after each egg. When eggs have been mixed into the cream cheese add flour, vanilla and lemon juice, mix well. Add the sour cream last and beat well. Pour cream cheese into the spring pan. Place on the top rack in the middle of a 325 degrees preheated oven for one hour and 15 minutes. When time is up, prop open oven door and leave in oven for one hour. After one hour, remove from oven. Let cool enough before the cheesecake is put into the refrigerator for 24 hours. A cheesecake should season. The wait is worth it. The flavor ripens and becomes enriched.

Anybody have a recipe that starts from scratch?

Would breadmaker dough work? There'd need be some amendments of ingredients, no doubt.

I am sure there are recipes for making yeast doughnuts and using your breadmaker to mix up the dough. I haven't made doughnuts in a very, very long time. If I find a recipe for the breadmaker I will post it. I use my breadmakers many times for making yeast dough. ( I have more than 1 ) The recipe I use for my yeast rolls is not kneaded so I do not use the breadmaker for them.

Bread Machine Doughnuts Recipe #153348
An easy recipe for homemade doughnuts. The original recipe says you will get 2 dozen doughnuts cut from the dough but I have never been able to get more than 1 dozen. I usually just sprinkle hot doughnuts with a mixture of cinnamon and sugar -- we can't wait for a glaze! These are light and airy and delicious.

55 min : 15 min prep

2 dozen

1 1/4 cups milk
1 beaten egg
1/4 cup shortening
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
3 1/2 cups white flour
1 1/2 teaspoons dry yeast
Measure ingredients into your ABM baking pan.
Select dough setting and start machine.
Roll finished dough to 1/2 inch thick. Cut with a 2-1/2 inch donut cutter.
Let rise, covered, 30 minutes or until doubled.
Deep fry in fat at 375 degrees.
Turn doughnuts as they rise to the surface. Fry until brown on both sides.
Drain on absorbent paper towels. Either glaze or dust with powdered sugar. This has high ratings on Recipezarr. Sounds really good to me.

Hubby's grandmother made the most delicious baked donuts with a peanut butter glaze.

I like this recipe because it doesn't make so much!

The mashed potatoes give them a nice texture - a little moister, not so dry.

Spudnuts

1 pkg. dry yeast
Â½ cup mashed potatoes
Â¼ cup warm water
1 egg
Â½ cup milk
3/4 tsp salt
2 tablespoons butter
3Â¼ cups flour
Â¼ cup sugar
Combine yeast with warm water. Set aside. Heat milk, butter, & sugar until the butter begins to melt. Cool to lukewarm. Combine mashed potatoes and egg in a large bowl. Stir in the cooled milk mixture, yeast, & salt. Beat in enough flour to form a soft dough. Turn out on a floured board and knead until smooth. Place in a large bowl that has been sprayed with PAM, turning the dough so it is oiled on its entire surface. Cover with plastic wrap (I spray with Pam so dough doesnÂt stick to it). Let rise in a warm place until doubled. Punch down, knead it lightly. Roll out to Â½ thickness. Cut with a doughnut cutter. I place them on a lightly floured large cookies sheet and cover with a flour sack towel. Let rise until doubled.

Deep fry until golden on both sides - you will need to flip them.
Make a thin powdered sugar glaze and drizzle over warm doughnuts.
Makes about 20 doughnuts.

Your so right Joyful....that's why I asked here instead of the cooking forum. I knew I'd get some good recipes and I did!
So....guess what I will be doing when I get back home from caring for my Mom??? LOL
