Do you have a technique or skill that you dislike or have difficulty with?

I just finished a 6" block with 12 Y seams; 4 partial seams; and 4 curved seams. It convinced me that Y seams are not my favorite thing to do. Partial seam are too bad with something larger but these were not fun.

Hand applique - after taking two classes, I still don't like it and I'm still not very good at it. Haven't finished any hand applique projects yet.....AND....I don't even care!

I can do inset seams, partial seams, Y-seams, and curved seams. They aren't my favorite things, but I can and do do them.

Applique, however, will make me want to shoot random strangers - oopps, I probably shouldn't say that, LOL. But I will never do it - the applique, that is.

Hi all, Nice white fluffy snow here, hope it goes away soon I want to play some golf! :) Jen, I get tired of eggs too but I work nights so for breaky I can eat lunch or dinner meals too. If you like smoothies you can add some soft tofu to them and also use soy milk. I know that may sound horrible, but you really cant tell and all you end up with is a nice fruity creamy drink. Im not sure which Woe you are on, so you may have to adjust the other ingredients as well. They sell all kinds of soft tofu, even some low or no fat ones. Many cultures eat fish for their morning meal, so you could go that way too! ;) Amy - Im glad your having fun in game, and including your art work as well, how fun! Patti- Sorry the struggle continues, sometimes they are so darn stubborn and cheap! I hope things work out for you and Dave. BJ - sorry your swamped, watch out for the gators! Gretchen - I agree the superbowl really isnt a family event, but they sure try dont they. I have no idea why people who dont watch football all year would care to see it. It would be like watching the season finale of a sitcom you havent seen all year.. I didnt get to see Janets assests, but she looks too much like Michael now anyhow so it would of just been freaky! Hello! We took our kids to the Pittsburgh Symphony this morning and I get the afernoon off!! I thought I'd check in and see how the birthday party for DeeMarie was going! LOL Dee - I am so glad you liked everything. I smiled at the thought of you sitting in bed surrounded by presents!! What a great way to start off the day. I was hoping you wouldn't be mad at me for the chocolates, but I had wanted to include somthing chocolate to go along with the card (Maxine of course!). I picked Anderson's because it is local and unique to our area. I started out looking for a Michel Delacroix print for you and couldn't find one in my price range. Then I remembered that I'd seen designers take apart calendars for the art work and I went on a search for the calendar. I found it at www.calendars.com. It makes me so happy to hear that you want to frame the pictures!! The Wendell August plant is in Grove City, which is an hour from here and I took a tour of their facilities once. I was fascinated by the craftsmanship and attention to detail, and I love to give their items as gifts. One of my preschool Mom's started a business making and selling the soy candles and body basics. So I asked her to make me up a sample bag for you. I love the body cream! I hope the rest of your day everything you hoped for. NHSuzanne - I popped in this morning before I went to school and I saw your post asking whose birthday it was, but I thought you were kidding. LOL I used a Banner site that uses odd fonts to create her name gif and I saved the banner as a graphic. I know if your computer doesn't recognize a certain font, it won't show up but I thought I had it covered with the gif. I wonder if anyone else can't see Dee's name? And thank you for the compliment about my packages. I am going to Curves at 3 today. How is it going for you? Raeanne - Have a great time in NYC. I have only been there once and someday I would love to go back. (My real dream is to get nominated for What Not To Wear and go there with a $5,000 credit card in my name!!) LOL Gretchen - I would love to read your Jodi Picoult book when you are done. And I will send Harvesting the Heart your way when I am done with it. I love that we can help each other out this way! Has anyone emailed Joanne or KYSusie about the SS get together? We haven't heard from either of them lately and I wonder if KYSusie is reading the threads and how Joanne is feeling. Joanne~ Thanks for checking in. We are all sending warm rays of well thoughts to you. Please stay in touch. Raeanne & DeeMarie~ Yes, our ears were on fire. Can't wait to see the pics, of course. And Deemarie, congrats on the 8 pounds---my heavens, nothing tastes as good as getting thin feels! My eating kind of went out the window today. Three stressful situations finally made me cave! Luckily, I got out of the house and went to the elementary school where I cracked open a few geodes for the kids in 2nd grade---man, were they surprised when they saw the insides! I went to see "Miracle" (starring Kurt Russell). My kids loved it and so did I! What a great movie! That American team worked their tails off to get that medal. Catch it if you get a chance, but would be great for a rental too. Is anyone planning on seeing "The Passion"? Sounds like it makes quite an impression on people. I can't believe how quickly this month leapt by---yowsers! It's almost over!

I'm with Teresa and Mary C...had applique is not my friend. If I must do applique it is with heat and bond.

I'm with all the anti-applique peeps. I have taken classes and never have finished a hand applique project. I don't like to do Y seam either. I will do machine applique and did a table runner each month last year with it. It's not my favorite but gets the job done.

I don't care for Y-seams and insets. I don't care for partial seams, but I can do them. I'm sorry so many of you don't care for applique. I love to hand applique but not itty-bitty pieces.....just takes me a long time. @:)

Free motion quilting has been a toughie for me. I have practiced but can't seem to get a good stitch....very frustrating.

You guys can send me all your hand applique work! It is one of my favs!! I've not attempted a Y seam, but they sound really nasty.

I'm with Robbi and Sharon. I LOVE hand applique. But I'm not crazy about using fusible with anything. It just seems unnatural. I sew on several machines without zig-zag so seldom do anything you have to machine applique around edges.

Geraldine, I too struggle with FMQ. You might be interested in a FMQ Quilt Along we did at A Few Scraps. I loved her approach and I learned a lot. We made a sampler of stitches which I am hanging in my sewing room for a quick reference when I can't think of what to use.

I have a problem with curved seems. They scare me!!!

I can do hand applique but it is SOOOO time consuming that I do the fuse and zigzag method mostly.

I also can paper piece but only if there is not a bunch of commotion around me. It's like thinking backwards or something.

Y seems and I haven't been introduced so I can not comment on them but I have to tell you the though scares me too!

Although I'm not fond of Y-seams, insets, curved seams and hand applique, I can do it if I must. But paper-piecing?? My brain just can't wrap itself around it, no way, no how. Every time I've seen it on TV or in magazines, my brain instantly melts into a quivering mass of goo. I used to think that way about mitering bindings, but I finally mastered that one.

Not overly fond of Y seams but I do them when I need to. Partial seams for some reason I really like (?)!
I love to machine applique - started w/zig zag, but I now use a button hole stitch almost exclusively - I like the way it looks better & it's way less thread! LOL
I have not done much w/curved seams, but I have several patterns using them that are on my 'to-do' list. Just hope I live long enough to get to the list! I have to finish at least 6 WIPs before I begin a new project! - Self inflicted rule!!
