Wonderful - I'm sooo envious!

Congratulations! We have a side-by-side, with water and ice in the door. It's great, except that you have to buy water filters for it. The filters are expensive, but I got great deals on them at discountfilterstore.com.

I wish I could have a gas range! Our house is all-electric, so I'm stuck with getting an electric stove. I can't make up my mind what type to get--and I hate the idea of buying new pans, or giving up my cast-iron cookware.

I think we are going to need a new one...sure hate that because we can't afford it. Our is not cooling very good anymore. Today I threw out some milk because it smelled like it was getting sour.

It's nice getting new isn't it...I just loved ours when it was new.

How do you like your gas stove??

I picked up a free frig and stove from Freecycle recently. The apt came with a frig and stove of course, but the frig had no room inside it for anything. It was a normal height, but the interior was small.

So I replaced them with my free appliances and they are fantastic.

I'd love to cook on a gas stove and see how I would like it. The curiousity is killing me. Did you have gas before? I've heard they heat up the kitchen more than electric because the flame is out in the open, and the walls etc get dirty. Hmmmm.

I am happy that you got your new appliances. I have a side by side refrigerator with the ice crusher, dispenser and water in the door. I really do not like a side by side and wish I had the other kind with a door for the freezer and a door for the refrigerator at the top and bottom. Not enough space in the side by side for me.

Pattico, you are near Omaha aren't you? Watch the Nebraska Furniture Mart sales. They frequently offer free financing for an extended period of time. Last summer when I bought carpeting from them, I got 18 months free financing and have my carpet almost paid for now. Right now they have 24 mo. free financing.
My appliances are Whirlpool on the advise of an appliance repair person who is a friends with DS.
I love cooking with gas since that is what I learned to cook on and my friends who are gourmet cooks all use gas. My old stove was electric and worked just fine but I wanted gas. My old fridge still works well but I wanted a new one with water and ice in the door. I rented most of my adult life and now that I own my home, I wanted new appliances.

Wanda, my friends who have an appliance store told me you don't have to replace the water filter just because the warning light comes on. You can wait until you notice a difference in the taste. Thanks for the web address, I will check out the prices there.

Linda, that's what they told us when we bought this refrigerator...but it stops making ice when we need a filter! That sucks!

Congrats! I know what you are feeling I just got my new fridge about a month ago. I LOVE it, got mine at Lowes but it was a special order, I wanted big, it is the GE Profile 29cuft stainless steel side by side with water and ice in door.
I know you will enjoy it.
Mine came with a thing that you screw in where the filter was if you are not wanting to replace the filter so that it keeps on working.

Linda...my husband recently talked to a guy who repairs refrigerators.....he also recomendend a Whirlpool.

My washing machine is a Whirlpool and we've been using it for about 30 years. It is used nearly everyday.

If we have to replace, that is what we plan to get.

Linda, what color did you get? I'd like a new frig but it isn't on the "menu" this year. I want a French door frig with the freezer in the bottom and two doors that open on top. If I really want to dream I'd like the one that has two bottom drawers :-) I love a bottom freezer. Makes so much more sense to me.

Patti43, all my appliances are white. I have a small galley kitchen with white cupboards and red walls. I like the French door fridges but you need a lot of room for them and they are very expensive, I think they are over $2k.

Appliance repairers like Whirlpool because they have a good parts-distribution infrastructure. But their recent products IMO are either outdated or, for their newer more innovative designs, overpriced. I'd usually buy LG, Samsung, Bosch, Electrolux, or even GE nowadays.

If you like Whirlpool, note that they've bought about a dozen other brands over the last 15 years, and that they also make Maytag, Jenn-Air, Amana, Kitchenaid, Admiral, etc., etc., and they are all nearly identical nowadays.

Linda, congrats on your new fridge. I replaced mine about 3 years ago. I noticed a difference in my electrical bill right away. They sure are energy sufficient.

I got a 25 cu/ft. Whirlpool, Gold series, side-by-side, on clearance at Lowe's for 1/2 the price. On the side, it had a little bitty dent on the outside surface, that was it.

Not only that, during Ike, we lost power for 3 days. I kept the freezer side unopened. When the power came back, I opened to check. There were still ice in the ice box and the food were still half frozen. I couldn't believe how well the seal held up during power outage.

As for the filters, the price works out about the same as other filters for me. I'm by myself, that means, I don't use as much water comparing to a normal size family. The fridge is set for a 6-month period to change the filter. I reset and use it 3 times more before changing it. I haven't had problem with the ice maker stopping.

I love my fridge and I'm sure you will enjoy yours too.

Mine are all white too, Linda. Same thing--white cabinets. But I'd probably pick white anyway. Because I like it and it doesn't seem to go out of style. Anything else would look weird in my kitchen.
