I am in awe. I love the way you quilted around some of those leaves and your studio is gorgeous. Wonderful work.

Laura the block size is 20" by 25" the white brick wall is called adobe plaster wall and I used red brick for the flooring...... there is still things I have to add to this block. I used iron on bating under the table and the legs and chair you can't tell but it makes the pieces stand out.. Hard to get it to show up on the pic.....I am going to try to make this quilt look like a archway and you would be looking into the room........ Also I seen were my son was into my sewing things BECAUSE he cut out some pieces I had for his quilt THAT WEREN'T to be cut he left a note LOL! Red

I do wall hanging size FMQ on an old 1970s Kenmore with great results. I release presser foot pressure and drop feeds. I also reduce upper thread tension a bit. I make a note to myself about those settings and keep it nearby as I go back to straight sewing a lot. My FMQ teacher says to quilt in ditch first and do fancy stuff after. I suppose it depends on style of quilt really. If I stitch in ditch I just use regular sewing settings and feed dogs up. I don't use rubber gloves now that my FMQ teacher said to use Neutrogena Norwegian Formula body emulsion lotion on my hands instead. It gives you grip without hurting fabric. I have a modern Janome I also use but prefer the old Kenmore for the FMQ. I think the heavy weight makes it more stable. I built a table for it to make a level surface since it's basically a portable without top case on. I just used an old prefinished shelf piece about 18 x 24" and cut it out with a jigsaw from a cardboard template I made first. (I can explain to anyone who is interested.) I may make a larger one for occasional use later.

Well, I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one who has a quilting day from hades. I discovered what the problem was. You know how spools of thread have that little slit in them to hold down the edge of the thread when they're new? Well, sometimes when you try to break the thread loose to start it, you open it up into a gap. I always try to remember to place that edge up, and not down at the bottom of the end off which the thread feeds into the machine. I didn't when I replaced the spool of thread. Then I got to wondering why it wasn't an issue yesterday, but was today. It's because there is a lip at both top and bottom of the spool and when the thread is getting low, it drags the thread strand over this lip. This morning, when the feed would seem to catch, and the stiches were not even, it was that strand of thread getting caught in the slit in the spool. It yanked hard enough to break a needle. I simply turned the spool over and all was back to normal. sigh.

I never thought of making the table slick! Duh!! I have some silicone spray I use for my embroidery that I bet will work like a charm. Thank you for the light bulb :-) Robbi

Your quilts are wonderful as is your quilting. I love the bear paw with 9 patch...is there a pattern for that or is it you original design?

I have never seen such wonderful sewing macines. Thank you for sharing your collection of quilts and machines with us.

The bear paw/log cabin/nine patch block is my own design. I call it "Triple Whammy". I've got to post some new pictures as I've added appliqued setting triangles to it now. It's a "wedding" quilt for my daughter and her husband who have been married four years now. Maybe I should just call it an anniversary quilt and not specify which anniversary!

Love, love, love your quilt! And your studio! Thanks for the lesson - wish I could take a quilting class with you!

I'm also very interested in the Triple Whammy block! Do you think you could give us online instructions here on the forum - or - could we buy a pattern/instructions from you? That is one fantastic block!

I saw your studio today, very nice. That is so wonderful that you use the machines and other things you collect...it's like why would you restore a car and then not drive it.

I went through some new quilt magazines today...just thought I'd tell you I didn't find anything even close to what you design. It seems most patterns now are mostly squares and rectangles...I'm not knocking them because I use them to make up a quick quilt but there are those of us that are looking for new challenging and enlightening patterns.

I think you should copyright your patterns and sell them. They are just yummy!!

OH MY......... Wow. Annie those are so beautiful, I feel happy just looking at them. Love the red and white one -- that caught my eye right off, as well as the colorful stars. You do know beauty!!!!!
