Is your workers licensed and insured? Can you contact your state contractor's person? Have you paid him yet? As to the termites, I don't understand the holes. Ususally they put a tent over the house and fumigate. Of course all pets, plants people out for a while, but no holes. My Uncle used to do this all the time.

I am sorry about your day. :( That sounds so frustrating. I really hope that everything gets taken care of for you soon and you are able to sit and have a huge sigh of relief.

I was told we would need holes drilled into the foundation of the house, every 12 inches, for termites. That's about the same fee, too. That was just for "protection". There weren't any signs of them. We're on a crawl space, and decided not to do it.
I feel for you. When it rains, it pours.

Mammie-I understand! Yes, you're thankful that your problems aren't life shattering, like death and diseases, but they are still problems none the less, causing stress and annoyance. And when they're piled on top of each other, sometimes it's more then you can take!

Sometimes my worst day is a cranky toddler who won't eat her veggies and wants to watch tv all day. I know deep down it's no big deal, but catch me on the wrong day and if just sets me off!

If you want to look on the bright side, at least the work has been started. I know you'd prefer more, but there is progress! And eventually it will be done and you can enjoy again!

We have to have our house tented for termites.Many people here in S.Ca have them,so even tenting is only an expensive temporary fix. In fact during the October fires last year this one family in a fairly new house posted a sign in their fron yard that said"Finally,no more termites",after their house burned to the ground.

Mariend, yes, we are covered as far as them being licensed and insured. At least they have that going for them. LOL

I don't know of any exterminators in this part of the country that do the tent thing. I've heard of it though. Your offer of tea sounds mighty good!

Heather, I had to laugh. Right after mentioning your ants you asked if I liked cheesecake. I thought you'd found a new way to kill ants with cheesecake! LOL Oh I sure do like it and wish I could have some with my tea from Mariend.

Foggy, we have a basement and I guess it's around there that they will drill the holes. A friend of mine just told me that the stuff they use is only good for a few years. Oh brother!!

I don't remember if I mentioned it in my post, but of course, my (lucky) husband is out of town. Did you ever see it fail? Never here for the fireworks. LOL

We have creepy crawlies and my bug guys come kill them every quarter. We are very lucky they aren't termites. We get their best friends carpenter ants instead.
I like the tent idea, I have never seen it done anywhere. Kathy

mammie the racoons don't eat much if they get inside....HA! more than once we've had them walk right in sit down and eat all the cat food, plus make a mess when they wash it in the drinking water...the only reason they got in was my fault for leaving a window or cat door open...

Kathy, I haven't seen the tent thing either, just heard about it. Do carpenter ants do the same type of damage as termites?

Susan, the reason I'm still awake is that I keep listening for the sounds of racoons or any other type of animal in my house. It may be a long night! :)

In IN where I live they get smaller, so I'm told. I have a sister that lives in FL and she has to have her home "tented" every 3 mo. So for that I'm thankful that so far I've never seen one of those bugs in my home...we get mostly spiders which, in the fall can be just as bad sometimes.....

The minute I see a carpenter ant I am on the phone to the bug guys. (They fly in and drop their wings) I think the damage is about the same, they tear up the wood and make nests in the houses. We have the perfect climate for them in the Pacific NorthWET! LOL! Kathy

My understanding is there are 2different kinds of termites.

One kind (drywood), you tent for--or, you can use bait, I thnk.

The the other kind (subterranean; they eat damp wood), you poison them in the soil using bait, etc.

We had termites and had the foundation done as well. What a royal pain that was! They shoot the stuff into the foundation walls, the termites won't cross that barrier. So if those in the house are trapped there, if they cannot return to the nest at night they die. Or that is the way it is supposed to work. . . didn't happen at our house, they were living just fine in the house.....our basement was very damp because the house was built into a hillside. What a mess....they finally told us to take the critters and go out for a few hours. They sprayed something that the gov't had banned and we never had another problem! LOL!!
