Good for you Linda!!!!

Last summer there were some gold buyers at the Holiday Inn, they were advertising all over the radio. I took some of my stuff in, and I didn't like what they were offering.

I then contacted a local jeweler and took it there, and he offered me 3X what they did. I've taken a few more things in since.

I told him my story (of the fly-by-nighters) and he asked if I'd send him a testimonial. I did, and he uses it in his newspaper ads.

Last year I took mine and my husbands rings to a jeweler and had them made into a pendant. I would never wear them again, our children would just throw them in a drawer or sell them, but a daughter might wear a pendant. Last week I found a heavy gold ring my husband bought at an estate sale laying beside the band I bought him. I took both to the jeweler and she is going to make earrings to match my pendant. Now I can wear the memories.

So, Linda, did you get more for the sterling than you would have gotten on eBay? I'm just curious.

right now is a very good time to sell Gold! Silver not near as much. If you happen to have some old stuff you are willing to part with it is a great time to do it. I would never trust those mail in deals I only go with an actual jeweler.
I had a lot of my jewelry that I knew I would never wear again so I bought a very nice little jewelry box and on my grand daughters 16th birthday she got it all along with a beautiful tiara I had, she could not believe it, she cried she was so excited, that was the best price I could have got for it. Hopefully she will enjoy it and maybe pass it on down.

Now is a good time to sell gold?

The huge debt, not only of gov'ts. but private debt as well, in our "advanced" countries makes us a poor credit risk.

Not only that - many countries, including the U.S., are printing money, hand over fist.

I heard a financial advisory a while ago speaking of the "Weimarization of the western world", especially the U.S.

Remember the stories of folks in Germany during the 20s having to take a wheelbarrow of paper money to buy some coal/groceries, etc.?

A few years ago if I bought U.S. money at the bank, a Canadian dollar would buy about U.S. 75 cents ...

... now it'll buy US$1.02.

Some say that we should be buying gold ... or silver, as there was a greater disparity between their prices a while ago than usual, but the larger than usual gap has been closing, recently. They do stuff with silver that consumes it, but almost all of the gold that was ever mined is still around.

Here's an idea: how about buying some stock in one of the companies that is dealing with rare earth metals, much of the useful resource of which is based in China, but which is needed in most of the computers, cell phones, etc. that there's such demand for, these days? And in batteries: most cars even today, before the big deal about batteries that may well be in place in future years, need some of those resources, e.g. lithium, as well.
