Southern Y ellow Pine for Decks

I read an article recently that said Southern yellow pine was superior to both heart grade redwood and cedar as a deck wood. They claimed it was more rot/water resistant and stronger. I live on the West Coast so Redwood and Cedar have been the most common construction woods for decks. I wonder if the advantages of pine would make the cost of shipping worth the effort. It should be more common in the South or East Coast so I was hoping someone from there could answer this.
