We're moving!

My husband has been working in Galveston, TX for about six weeks now and it looks like we'll be joining him sometime in late March. My daughter will be staying here, so many of our things won't be moved, which is good, but does mean that I have to pick and choose what I actually pack up as opposed to just packing it all and having done. I'm frantically finishing one last quilt before I start on the sewing room. Anyway, I probably won't be around too much in next few months. I've really enjoyed my time here at GW and I'll be back ASAP.

You have my sympathies Annie, I moved 2 years ago and I am still looking for things LOL.
Take care and hurry back, you are a great inspiration for us with your extremely high quality projects and great talent.

Hi Annie,

I'll be keeping you in my prayers, as moving is pretty darn stressful. I hope it won't take long once you move, to feel at home in your new neighborhood and that you'll find some kindred spirits there--and of course at least one half decent place to shop for fabric.

Thanks everybody. I've made some progress. I also have 10 varieties of garlic growing (around 150 bulbs) that I have to protect for the next 2 months until harvest. It's a good thing we'll only be a block away. The blackberry vine has finally reached maturity and will be loaded with berries by then. I'm just praying nobody moves in right away. You can see the blackberry vine on the trellis and trained all along the fence. The garlic is in the foreground. And of course the succulent trough, originally built for lettuce. The rest is various veggies and herbs, some radishes going to seed, asparagus... I'm going to miss my little garden. I hope the next people appreciate it. It was all grass when we moved in and I've made the soil incredibly rich.

Thanks for the welcome! It's sure been fun getting to "know" some folks before getting there. Makes me feel like I'm going home in a way. LOL We close on the lot tomorrow, and the designer is working on the floor plan for us revised based on what we drew up, and will have that on Friday. So, step by step we're getting there. We will wait till it's built to move, which will probably be in January. And that's a guess (and hope). Yes, we are getting excited. It will actually feel "real" when we own the lot and we have a final house plan in our hands. Are you in or near Greenville? Do you know the best nursery for native plants there? It would be nice to have a name where to begin. I've already begun thinking about what we want to put in the area around the house. They don't leave much of a "building envelope" since it's a preservation community, so that is GREAT! And they want native plants used which is wonderful. We've had a natural wildlife habitat yard for many years and really love it. We promoted National Wildlife Federation's program and it's been a lot of fun for us and other gardening families that like birds and wildlife. DH lived in Outremont and I lived even further down from Queen Mary, more near the Van Horne area. I am soooo glad that I had weeded through things these past couple of years. It really is making a differene in my life now. I'm finding that it's been pretty easy to pack. DH has even gone through some boxes of stuff that I didn't know what to do with and have been lugging around from place to place. All of his stuff is packed. So far, there are 43 boxes packed. One thing that's helped me is when I get to the last of a set of boxes pertaining to a particular item, I've been leaving the last one open and putting things in there as I find the odd piece that goes in there. Then I repack it properly. We will be going this weekend to find a new place. Then I'll be able to figure out if I'll have any storage room for some of these boxes.

I, too, think moving is hard but it might be helpful that your daughter is staying and you can leave some things behind until you decide you need them. Best wishes on your move and hope you can can settle in quickly in Galveston. Googled quilt shops near Galveston and these two look nice:

I joined this forum just to post this to you. I occasionally get down Galveston way and would love to meet you. I think your quilting is divine and awesome. I cannot imagine doing what you do with a treadle machine. I wish there were a way to send you an email via the forum, but I do not see a way. Good luck with your move and enjoy that part of Texas. I lived in Houston unitl 1977.

We will miss you but they do have computers in Texas and I know that a few years ago there were at least 2 wonderful quiltshops in the area. One in Houston and one in Galveston. Ofcourse that was before that terrible storm.
Another plus is the International Quilt show every year.

Good luck with your move. Be very careful when you unpack. I lost a vital part to one of my older machines - I am pretty sure I tossed /recycled it with the packaging when I moved the last time.
Please come back here. I so enjoy your exquisite work in the short time I've been here. Your pictures and advice to others have helped me immeasurably.
I was counting on you for FM advice when I was ready - I know - I am selfish:) Thank you for your contributions to the forum and I look forward to your return after you get settled in your new home.

The first thing I thought about was your awesome sewing studio and all those treadles. Will you be looking for a place where you can set it back up?

You are a wonderful resource on this forum and also on the antique forums, and puleese.........don't be away from the GW too long.

Good luck on the move. My step daughter moved from the midwest to Texas about a decade ago. She lives in a rural area outside of Houston and loves it. Doesn't 'look back' on the cold and snows at all and has turned into a Texan as much as a transplant can.

Now I can "hear" Galveston, Galveston in the back of my mind. Thank you Glen Campbell. LOL.

Annie good luck with the move. Moving is such a big job and it takes a while to settle in. I will really miss you, you have helped so many of us with our questions and we value your friendship.
