Hey NanaJayne, Do you mean me, that you wished to see it closer up? If so: I too have done several that are scrappy, done from sets of fat quarters, once I learned this pattern. So I also don't really think yardage when I do these. For this one (the bed quilt for my Mom's 80th year) I consulted the ladies at my LQS who are mostly quite knowledgeable & experienced in things like this. I don't remember the yardage suggestions they made, then again, I'm sure I tried to err on the extra side on this one. I will check out the yardage tute above at another time, thanks for adding it. I'm really happy w/ this quilt, makes me beam w/ pride. If I ever work large again, I hope to collaborate w/ this long arm quilter again, he does magnificent work.

Hmmmmm, I've been thinking (ok, ok, ok.....stop laughing!), I have a few red/white/blue orphan blocks here and I'm thinking I should probably be able to get 2 quilts from these. Hmmmmmm........ lmontestella~ Contact paper was the term I was thinking of when I typed, but that's not what this is. This is like clear vinyl (maybe) that clings to the ruler...isn't sticky. And just to confess, I know that you're suppose to cut away from you... but... gasp... I cut towards myself too! I have much more control when coming towards me. I think having control is wise, so I cut in whichever manner I have more control. (I AM particularly anal about always, always, ALWAYS closing the rotary cutter when I set it down, though. And about always hanging it on it's hook on the wall when I leave the room.)

That's exactly how I would do it (and have done it). I would actually do a white strip with a blue strip on either side. Once you cross-cut it, you'd end up with blue square-white rectangle-blue square. Then you only need additional white rectangles for the opposite sides of your print fabric to make up your 'block'.
