Bought a new purse: pic and a question

Love it, just my size.

BUT: how do I keep the wooden handles looking new?

AND: being as it is cloth, is there a spray, to keep the purse from getting soiled?

You could spray the cloth with Scotch Guard to keep it looking new.

Thanks everybody! I'm pretty tickled as these are my first roses. The trellis' are 3/8" thick steel and they are the scrap pieces left when smaller squares of steel plate were cut from it. I have a local metal worker who after paying the bills with boring stuff is a found object artist and he had the pieces lying around. He simply welded the side rails on them and we stuck them over 3 feet deep into the ground. They are about 8" from the wall which it concrete hardi-board. So it's about as sturdy and indestructible as you can make something. I hope. If anybody is in the area (Mid TN) I'd be happy to send you his contact--these are one of a kinds but he's brilliant, creative and pretty affordable. The roses are now about 7'. I have almost 35 feet from side to side for them to spread, 12 feet from the ground to the top of the roofs and the range for them I've read is 10-20 feet. Surely that's enough space? If it isn't and I'm lucky enough that the RRD doesn't get them first I guess I'll chalk it up to a learning experience and whack her back! So my plan will be to let the big new canes work themselves on up toward the roofs, let the older canes fill out the top of the trellis and keep tucking the strays back on to the trellis. Perfect. Fortunately the doors are not heavy traffic ones so maybe we can keep the shredded clothes to a minimum. She does have some serious thorns and a bit of an attitude! ;-) Any suggestions for gloves? Thanks to everybody here. I'd have never figured out any of this without the pointers and advice. I've got 8 bands in pots out in the kitchen garden so I'm counting on you!!

I had 'New Day' at the old house and regret leaving it behind. It was an excellent cut flower as well as garden rose. It is a Kordes so is somewhat more cold-hardy than a lot of yellow HTs. My new PJPII has a lot of that growth as well. It is a very vigorous cultivar, full of energy and vitality. As it has gotten taller the growth has become very normal looking.

Good pictures! Lucky you to find a source for houseplant begonias. The first two are rhizomtous so will not tolerate overwatering, but don't panic if they dry. If B. 'Escargot' is doing fine, congrats, as many people struggle with it. If you are going to overwinter it and 'Cowardly Lion;' they will need additional humidity, but that is just my opinion. The two Rexes are thin leaved and will not tolerate direct sun, they must have good humidity too, will probably be okay if grown closely with the others, the closer they all are the better humidity for all of them. Paradoxically, Rexes need strong light to hold that red color. I think you are doing fine.

Brandon= thanks for the plug= I grew up in Newport (Npt elem., Horace Ensign, Npt high school.) Amber= Your plants look great. The Thai varieties are very thin stems so make sure you keep them staked and that they are tied low and high because thin plants will bend over from the weight of the leaves. I had a six foot Moragne #23 grow above the stake and bend over because I was not paying attention. I would repot to a 3 gallon next February- let them get firmly rooted this year. Your inflos will probably fall off in Oct/Nov and the leaves will drop after that. Be careful of cold nights by then as Thais can be sensitive to cold because they are thin and greenhouse starts. your fertilizer is fine for right now but stop feeding in early september so the plant can harden up for winter. I usually repot when the plant tips over in the wind (although I have some 5 foot seedlings still in 5 gallon pots. I assume you are inland (i am in Costa Mesa) because your Calif. sunset is more reddish than mine. the location by city is important here because there are so many microclimates. Nicole is in Banning, NiKKi is in inland empire, James is in long beach area, Karen is in the valley with Tony, and others are spread around the basin. Each area has its own challenges. Bill

Glenda I love that bag..what is so ironic I just got back from TJMax where I purchased a flowered print leather summer bag,, A first for me.
There are sprays to protect the fabric,as for the handles I would use a bit of paste wax applied with a soft cloth.

gemini40 , I just returned The Sak purse that I bought from TJ MAX. Got this one at Kohl's.

May have to go back to TJ Max and look for the leather print you bought.

Can you show me a pictures of it?

That's a very cute purse. When the fabric gets dirty or the handle looks worn, toss it and buy yourself a new one!

Glenda when it comes to anything other than typing a post..I am hopeless...sorry can't do pics.. But I can tell you it is a med. size bag..lightweight leather.the flowers are a soft purple, orange pink, not a lot, just 7 on the front.two cell phone pockets on on each side and a an leather stap. It was on 34.99 so no huge investment but nice for the summer. I usually buy plain color bags ,but for some reason this just struck a note with me. Good luck.

I love that purse! Lemon oil keeps wood "moisturized" and Scotchguard should do fine. I'm like June--never have bought a flowered bag--in fact, I don't think I've ever bought one that wasn't black, brown or beige. I need to rethink things!

I like the print bags too, but...unless you only wear solid colors, won't it 'clash'? Wooden handles can wear very well. I still have one of those small 'button-on' purses with new-looking wooden handles from...oh, maybe 30 years ago? LOL (You button on different cloth covers. Mine has Westies on a navy background.)

I need some red casual shoes -- flats or closed-toe sandals. Red goes with almost everything I own; closed-toe because my toenails are not always 'lovely'.

Pretty! RFS Should be easy to hand wash the fabric, something you can't do with leather! (I know saddle soap will do wonders). Then any wood stain will bring back lost color on the wood handle.
