Get this: our HOA denied our pool. Reason: we encroached the "building line".....however, the building line is NOT the utility easement. The building line I was told by 4 different pool builders is for the house only.....meaning how far back you can build the "house or main residence". It even says this on my survey that I submitted to the HOA with my plans. So I appealed and gave them this information which they should look at closer. Has anyone else had this problem? Any Pool Builder's out there that can help or confirm this or just give me your 2 cents??? My PB is in Cypress--very reputable and they even said our HOA was wrong. It's the Utility Easement we need to stay out of and we are clear of that. Any comments, advice or an explanation of this so called Building Line would be appreciated. JLong

We had a similar issue, our yard slanted diagonally, with the higher elevation towards the back of the yard. A couple of the salesmen discussed a retaining wall, but I wanted to go with a Raised Bond Beam to allow for a 'cannonball zone' in the deepend. I am very happy with my decision. LOL! No, we're not going to buy that house just because it has the features our kids would like :-) Just, at that moment yesterday, it sort of flooded over me how different we'd be if we were looking now. When we move, yes it will be a bigger house, but also a bigger lot. That house is on a smaller lot. It will be to a nicer neighborhood (that house is in either comparable or less nice place). Also I'm not sure I want a place that has been totally remodeled unless it was exactly something I like. We've spent our time here updating over the years, and now I'm kind of picky. Edit -- also the asking price is nearly double what we currently owe! You would be better off to call a pool company to service it, and make sure it is all up and running in excellent condition. You would get a paper from them, that shows it is in good operating system, and has been serviced. If I were going to buy your house, I would demand that be done before final closing, anyway. By having it done, it will be one less thing to deal with.
