East Texas Quilt Show

Hi All,

I just spent a wonderful day with Carolyn S from here. We went to the Jefferson Quilt Show then antiquing we had a blast I did not get home till late.

BUT there is another Show IN TYLER Texas in late March. So if you live near, we are going to see you there. We will try to meet up with Kathy in Tyler . How bout Kay in Dallas are you going? Anyway as it gets closer I will put up a reminder.

I did not want to post and start the thread sliding down, hoping that somone would weigh in to attend. It sounds like fun and I wish that I could, however age and health concerns prevent me from going. This may be a pretty good year for maters, so hopefully, there will be quite a few folks there with lots to show and taste. Good luck and keep us posted. Bill P.

Wow! I also thought that the Bald Cypress population was continuous. Makes you wonder more about the differences. One other difference besides what Lou mentioned is height. The trees in Lousisiana are considerably taller than those say on the Frio or Sabinal or Guadalupe rivers in Texas. Assumed that was due to environment : not enough water, etc. Perhaps that also is due to something genetic.

'I plan to build up this place into a "show place" for various wildlife food plots; clovers, other legumes, buckwheat, peas, brassicas, chicory, cereal grains etc... ' nothing on this list is 'sensative' to grow. infact, if i were going to 'build' the soil over 8 acres, i would consider adding those very spp. altho i must say that ive never tried to grow chickory, it always seems to grow on pretty ruff soil. i think ur overworrying about something that u maynot have to. and even so, to try and build up 8 acres of soil in any other way than natural means is a feat onto itself, not to mention the costs. also, you are planning on putting on 1lb/9sqft of lime. that seems like alot at one time. that seems like over 2x the amount that i would recommend. and im curious what 2ton of 10-20-20 costs and how are you going to apply them? have you had a chat with the local county soils dept? they love talking to landowners about this very topic and will be able to recommend techniques. and dont let them stop at one, keep drilling them for different ways to skin this cat. there is always lasagna gardening. tho again...8 acres is alota acres to be doing anything by hand. lastly, ill leave you with something to browse when you have some time. its the concept of 'terra preta'. black soil. amazonian rainforest soil is some of the worst in the world. talk about warn out, it rains there CONSTANTLY. yet, ppl's were able to create black gold out of time, plants and some burning. the prairie soils grew out of the same ideal, tho not to the intensity that terra preta is. give it a looksy. I never heard of it, either. East Texas is in Lehigh County, north of Macungie, in the Allentown-Bethlehem metro area. Some of the names of towns and roads around here are interesting and maybe baffling. Yes...Wheels of Time is a large, 3-day, street-rod show. Link below. One of our favorites. Music and dancing at night....I can't wait, LOL, for tomorrow night's entertainment - Flamin' Dick and the Hot Rods are playing. Gladly, its March28th and 29th at the Harvey Convention Center in Tyler. over 250 quilts on display. Old fashion bed turning....not sure what that is but going to find out. Hope you can come. I will remind ya when it gets closer.

I went to the Jefferson quilt show also and really enjoyed it. I've only been quilting for a year so I have alot to learn.

When is the Tyler show?

Sewnana I have not been quilting much longer since fall 2005 I would have loved to meet ya. Do you close to Jefferson, I am in bossier City.

Gwen That is okay, I was not fussing, I think that was the article for last year. Someone told me it was the 30th of March Last year which would be perfect cuz then I could also go to Canton and spent the Day. :)

Is anyone from here going to the Quilt Show in Dallas on March 15th? I am going with a bus full of other quilters from Broken Arrow, OK.

I live in Texarkana. I'm really looking forward to the Tyler show. Unfortunately, I won't make it to the Dallas show.

I've only been sewing and quilting for a year. I have so much to learn!

My husband went with me to Jefferson. We were there from 10:30 - 1:30.

Nancy, I think that is about the time Nancii and I were there. Did you see the wedding gown quilt at the JQS? There is a thread about using wedding gowns for quilts. I hope I can find my picture of it. Maybe next time we can plan to get together. That's how I met Nancii - at the Shreveport Quilt Show.
