You have to have 7 additional inches in your base cabinet to have enough room for your sink. So a 32" sink needs a base cabinet of 39 inches. Subtract 7 inches from your 36" and that's the width of the sink you can have. I am going through this right now. My carpenter might have to "scoop" my cabinet on the inside to fit in a 32'' sink, so I might have to scale down to a 24" sink--I'm still undecided and the work begins this week. Maureen

Herbflavor is absolutely on the mark! Homework is ESSENTIAL! We found that sinks with seemingly equal measurements from different manufacturers have different minimum cabinet size requirements. We also discovered that if a particular manufacturer did not provide spec sheets for their product or their spec sheets were lacking data that other manufacturers provided, we steered CLEAR of that product. We settled on a Julien model with zero radius corners. It was on the high end of price, and ALSO on the high end of quality, service and ultimately our satisfaction! We are absolutely sure we made the right choice after doing all the research.

Thanks for all your responses. My kitchen is indeed very small--8"9' x 9! I knocked out the wall b/t the sunroom and the kitchen and another wall b/t the kitchen and the dining room, so although the kitchen's footprint won't change the space will be visually open. One nice thing about the size is that I can afford the Cambria quartz and Adura Vibe tile. The College Park, MD IKEA store used what I thought was the lazy susan base cabinet as a modified sink base in its display to show how some customers have created corner sink cabinets. IIRC, the cross-bar thingie was removed so the sink would fit. I'm curious about the corner wall cabinet--so the top needs to be cut out to house the sink? Would it be stronger than the lazy susan? Also writersblock, I don't see the 49" blind corner on Ikea's site--would you post a link?

As to your question about location of the drain hole - I have had both of the layouts you mentioned, and I prefer the hole in the middle back. I could set things in both sides of the sink and not cover the hole, and it was far enough back that the water from the tap didn't land directly on it (that is annoying because it splashes). I also found things washed down better, but that might have been a difference in the slope of the sink. Also think about what is going on under your sink. Is there anything special you want to do in the base cabinet that would require your plumbing to be in a particular location?
