Well, I won the blue pincushion not the cat one but I still have and use it often. I have it attached to my fold up ironing board. Been there 11 years now. Thanks again Jenni!

A little bit of fuzz at the areoles is normal. Hard to be positive without a picture but you're probably OK. "Pincushion cactus" is a common name, hence can be applied to all sorts of different cacti. I have never heard it applied to Thelocactus leucanthus. You can get a good confirmation of an ID by posting a photo, also if it flowers that will give you lots of clues.

Hardware store is a good place to look -- for a product like this one: Emery Buffing Compound Here is a link to instructions for making an emery pin cushion. This woman sells her pin cushions on Etsy, but she also sells the emery powder so you can make your own: How to make your own emery pin cushion Buy half a cup of emery from the pincushion lady I don't know if the pin cushion lady's emery is different than the emery polishing compound sold in the hardware store. Thank you all bunches! Geraldine the top saw tooth star block measures 4" square finished size, so 4 & 1/2 inches square unfinished size and same for the bottom square and then the side walls measure 1 & 1/2 inches tall finished size, 2 inches unfinished tall - I just cut a long 2" wide/tall strip and then once I got it sewed on I trimmed the length of the strip down to fit. I am really happy with how they turned out, they are not perfect, but made with love. These were fun mini projects and took me 2 to 3 afternoons to make each one. Allllright! I can now start my own lost needle collection!!!

I was so jealous a few months ago when Flamey shared with us a photo of the hundreds of needles long lost in the bowels of her pincushion... and there I sat with no pincushion at all. LOL

Thank you so much Jenni! I'll start losing needles as soon as it arrives! Do you have my address??? I haven't moved in the last 28 years so if you ever had it, it's still good. :-)

Jodi, Jodi, Jodi..... you silly woman. It was only 55 needles. 55 really sharp, missing needles. lol It still amazes me every time I come across that photo.

Man. I guess you'll all be sewing up a storm now, right? We're going to want proof, er, I mean pictures!

Thank you Jenni for the chance of winning...that was so much fun!! Your pin cushions are so darn cute, you could sell those things at a local quilt show and probably make enough to build up your IRA!! ~LOL~

I couldn't wait till Monday to send them out so I took them to the post office this morning! LOL
That cherry fabric is really cute isn't it? It came from JoAnns and I'll go over Monday and see if they still have it.
How much would you like if they do.

I think it was a perfect gift to buy her for Mothers Day. Any quilter like her will probably really like one.
It seems alot of people are buying them for Mothers Day gifts.

Oh, Jenni, thank you so much! Did you get the other red fabric, the bottom one, there too? If so, I'd love a yard of each of them, make a note of what I owe you, tax, shipping, too.
