Badu/swim jet or lap pool?
Comments (8)Oakie: I had the same dilemma last year and ended up going with the BADU jet. This was especially difficult due to the fact that, while there are alot of these installed, most of them seem to be outside the US and product reviews in English were nonexistent. I did as much research as I could and made my decision based on the long history of the Speck company that makes the pump and because our PB gave me a good deal on the installation because he had never done one before and wanted the experience. The BADU is a worthwhile addition to the pool. For exercise it would be considered too easy for a competitive swimmer. I.e., it is easy to defeat the jet if you sprint. On the other hand, staying in one spot for a half hour or more is fairly challenging. It takes a while to adjust your cadence to that of the current. From an entertainment perspective, the kids love jumping on a boogie board and "riding the river." Other things to consider are power consumption (pump has a sizeable electric motor) and noise (it's not real quiet.) There are better systems available, but cost alot more. Hope this helps....See Moredesign for rectangle swimming pool
Comments (5)Yea, if you could post a picture of your backyard that would be helpful. Would you like to see a water feature in front on the greatroom window?? That is what we did on our last pool. It looked gorgeous coming into the house and seeing the water feature on through our sliding glass doors. Or like donnaw suggested, do your pool at an angle. That is actually what we are doing with our new pool. We have an L shaped home, in the inside corner we have a door to the pool bath. Here's a not so good picture of the actual drawing to give you an idea. Our water feature is going to be in the bigger planter....See MoreHelp with pool steps design in lap pool -urgent!
Comments (5)They look perfect to me. IIRC, you need a minimum of 7.5 ft. for lane width, so you're good there. The actual length of your steps is a matter of preference. I think if you have more than 4 or 5 people hanging out there, 12' is perfect....See MoreSwim suit help
Comments (5)Bonnie has good advice. There are two pattern companies that make swimwear patterns that are decent: Kwik Sew and Stretch-and-Sew. I've used both at one time or another. Watch what kind of elastic you use for swimwear, as the chlorine will eat at some forms. I used clear elastic, if I remember correctly, for both swimsuits and skating/gymnastic leotards.
