Does anyone have a bladeless fan?

Dyson makes one and it has some appeal because I have a two year old grandbaby. How do you like it? Don't need a fan here too often, but once in a while. Is it quiet or is there a bit of sound?

Don't have one. They were selling refurbished ones at woot.com yesterday or the day before. The chatter about them there tended to be negative. They felt they were loud and overpriced (even at the $99 price refurbished).

I saw a couple on display last year and one of them was plugged in and running -- very quietly. I have been considering one, but I ran across some very mixed reviews. I was surprised to see the comments about them being noisy. Hard to say.

We have our first induction cooktop, a Wolf, after cooking exclusively on gas. the cooktop does not make the very annoying noise, but certain pans do. We have only Le Creuset and All Clad, both of which we were told were recommended for induction cooktops. No sound from the Le Creuset, but certain All Clad pans seem to be worse than others. In our experience the frying pans are the worst. Heavier pots and saucepans not as much. And, for whatever reason, one particular non stick pan was the worst of all, so we stopped using it because it was THAT ANNOYING.

Hmmm....I've actually been mulling installing one of these in my master bath, which currently has no exhaust fan. My thought was that it might be helpful to turn on while in the shower in winter or summer when opening the window was undesirable (either for cold air in or letting cooled air out). A more conventional exhaust fan that I could/would run both longer and more frequently doesn't seem essential because, A) the room is large and the bathroom door frequently open, so steam disperses quickly and well. And B) there are multiple extremely old, extremely leaky windows in the bathroom which do an unfortunately good job in ventilating the room! Does anyone know if they have a way to close them off when not in use?

My guess is that fan is post WW II. I sincerely doubt that a fan would have been installed in the house in 1903. That was really the dawn of electricity, and depending on where your house is located, it might not have had electricity until as late as the 1930s, when the Rural Electrification Association got electricity to a lot of rural areas.

We have had ceiling fans in our bathroom in 3 of our last houses and think it looked just fine. The first one DH put up was going to be a 50+ fan but then we decided that would be too large for the room so we went for a 42 inch. Our present bath is not large so he installed the small one that was originally in our family room when we purchased the house. Think I would die without it, sometimes use it even during winter months. Don't worry about how it will look, go for it and be comfortable.

Thanks graywings and lascatx. Maybe I'll see if Costco carries them, as they have such a great return policy if I don't like it. I was hoping to find someone who has personal experience before I sink that much $$ into a fan.

Thanks my3dogs...I saw that but don't know whether to trust the good reviews on amazon or not...(I trust the bad ones). I guess they are "verifying" customers now; thought I'd trust a community of reviewers here I "know" is objective...but I guess it's not such a big seller that anyone here has one. Still undecided.

I purchased a Dyson fan for my son a couple of years ago, since my MIL and FIL visit usually from January thru February. They live in Michigan. Our son's bedroom and guestrooms are in the same heat/colding zone. My in laws need lots of heat (old bones) but my son likes it very, very cold. His fan is very quiet and works very well. This fan was a great solution for our situation.

Those aren't necessarily any more trustworthy, just FWIW. It's very common to game the reviews both ways--have your staff write good reviews of your product and bad ones for the competition.

Forgot to say we have ceiling fans in all the bedrooms, exercise, family room, but our son claims they are noisy (on high speed) and don't do a good job cooling.

writersblock...well THAT'S a good point! Thanks for pointing that out. I heard about that happening on Yelp but didn't think about it for Amazon.
Texask, thanks for your post. Glad to know it worked out. I might just have to check at Costco and see if they have them this year. It's still freezing cold in the PNW, but if I wait until there is a hot spell there won't be a fan available south of the North Pole!
