copper roof pan under tile deck

I'm building a tile deck over a living space and was considering a torch-down membrane, covered with drainage layer, mortar bed, and ceramic tile. I talked to a handful of contractor friends and they all seem to think it will leak at some point. One guy recommended using a copper roof pan instead of a modifed membrane as my waterproofing layer.

I would likely have a sheet metal shop manufacture 4-6 pieces to be joined together onsite. Does anyone have experience putting a flat metal roof pan under a tile deck? Will the seams hold up to expansion/contraction pressures? Are there any concerns or reasons why I shouldn't consider this method?
