Do I really have to cut the PVC pipes to replace pump??

We are replacing our pool pump - hopefully doing it ourselves. It looks like we have to cut the existing PVC pipes to get it out. Is that right/normal?? There's a piece of threaded PVC that screws into the pump, but it appears the other end is glued to the lines. I keep looking for some way to unscrew something and just pop the pump out, but I sure can't find it.

If I really have to cut it out, when I re-plumb, can I set it up so if I ever want to change out the pump again, I could simply unscrew something? We have a 10" section of pipe (for our Ecosmarte) that has these big nut things on each end. When we need to take it out for cleaning, we simply unscrew the nuts, pull out the section of pipe and screw it all back together when we're done. We've had the pool for 9 years and it's never leaked. Is there some glaring reason that the pump wasn't done like that in the first place? I am no pool expert, so I'm afraid I'm missing something!
