I'm loving all the cat pictures in the two threads here. So many sweet faces! Lily, when I saw the picture of your cats lined up on the table I thought immediately of this table mat I made. When I designed it, all seven cats were living and I was always chasing them (half-heartedly, I admit) off the dining table. I decided to depict all of them on this mat and place it on the table they were so attracted to.

I've posted a picture of this mat before; in fact, I think I posted a more recent one--but I can't find it. I really like your decorating style, and think a hooked mat would be perfect for your table!

I don't have a bathroom I can designate the cat room unfortunately. I guess I could use the kitchen counter, but between the two options, I guess the DR table is the better one since we rarely use it. We stack our washer dryer, or that would have been a good option because that area is near his litter box. If he wasn't getting the fancy feast, I think the dog would leave his dry food alone. Sometimes I catch the dog up on two legs carefully snatching the fancy feast bowl off the DR table to lick any crumbs left over from Oliver's dinner. Although, maybe I should just let the dog get the bowl after Oliver eats. It would eliminate the dried on cat food mess!

Is your cat a klutz?

I have been reading about the "Klutz" in some cats. My cat is definitely a Klutz. After watching, owning and reading about cat behavior I've concluded that domestic cats still carry alot of wild cat behavior. Female cats are the hunters. They are agile, strong, intelligent hunters that will ban together to hunt for the food especially when they have young who still rely on them. They are quiet, stealthy, intelligent and together they are a hunting force with fierce skills that can quietly and effectively make a kill. The males on the other hand are scavengers, lone hunters and not the effective graceful and force their female counter parts are. They are there to protect the the pride and his young from other males. They are forceful and loud and use their large size to intimidate other males.youll also notice the playful cubs and just as human babies, they don't listen very well at times. Sometimes they push their boundaries. The playful side is necessary to teach them hunting skills and grow a relationship withing the pack. Some domestic cats are also prone to have vision problems as well. Some don't have the problems until later in life.

The tabletop itself is 28 1/2" X 33 1/2" across. It sticks out past the cab/island itself about 23"-24". We should have left more of an overhang (seating on the sides is a little tight), but we were already encroaching on the adj room with the counter stools, and didn't want to bump further into the room if we could help it. Had we know we'd only be "using" that am't of the table top, we might have had them cut the top a little shorter so it wouldn't overhang the island itself as much as it does, or made the bar of granite on which it sits a little wider. If you need help (or a better explanation!) or have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me via this thread or via email (we can always excahnge ph #'s and talk if you'd prefer, too). The leg is SS and was provided by our KD. They had it fabricated for us. I can ask for the info for you or put you in direct contact with the KD if you want. I love the way you used their tails in the design. It adds the continuity that ties the piece to gether and, causes one's eye to sweep across the work. Really well done!

That is a great hooked rug, Susan. I might have mentioned here before I collect antique ones . Pictoral ones are the best. I think I have about 40 rugs and a few of my favorites are a cat with Welcome Friends on it. I have a Scottie dog one, and a rooster one. Many are Amish, some designed like a log cabin quilt pattern. Most of mine are in my living room where the cats don't go and the rest are hanging on the walls in different rooms. Under the mat on the old farm table they're laying on is smooth satiny wood. They have ruined this table over the years because they all have claws .

Your rugs should be heirlooms. I hope you incorporated the date and your initials on them. I have only one with a date and it's 1865.

I should have explained.....they're not buttons. They're thumbtacks. When this picture was taken I was still using a frame that required the hooking to be thumbtacked to the perimeter. My current frame is much less primitive and doesn't use thumbtacks.

Lily, I must not have seen the post about your antique rug collection because I didn't know this. I'm not surprised, though. Sounds wonderful!

I initial and date most of my pieces. Even the hot pads I just completed for my daughter and daughter-in-law have my initials. No date, though.
