Comments (12)The only reason I was going to Restore it was that there are water marks and some strange yellowish residue on some of the wood. I have no idea what the yellowish residue is. Maybe once the deck is built I will try to wipe it off really good adn the water marks will come off when I sand. My wife and I have quite a bit of time and money invested in this deck and I am up for doing whatever it takes to help preserve it. The restore-a-deck will not harm new ipe wood, will it? If not and I did go ahead and use it would you recommend using it before or after sanding? Thanks again John, Ray...See MoreDo I need to strip finish before sanding a deck?
Comments (6)I already got yelled at for posting web sites over here the garden police think that's promoting business so I cant tell you where to get md80 but you might try a google with WoodRich. There are no nails you cant countersink. Any kind of sander is going to get it's pads torn up if you run it over the top of a few nails. Comments (1)I am not in the Bay area and I understand everything is so much more, but from my midwest experience I find that a reasonable cost for the size and a HCOL city. I have a 350 sq. feet and the projected cost was close to $1000 for similar work. I decided to do it myself the first few times. May I ask what stain product are they using? And what type of material is your deck (treated pine, cedar, redwood)? I used an acrylic solid stain the last time and while it looked great, I do believe it was a contributing factor to the deck boards rotting out as the wood could not breath well. Just as much as cost, you need to consider the materials and process. You will be going through every few years and you want to make sure you are not adding to the cost/process by using a staining product that has to be chemically stripped off. Decks are not cheap or fun to maintain. Good luck!...See Morepaintguy22
