Pleated shades of cellular shades for large windows

We have 2 very large windows in our great room that measures 106 inches wide by 48 inches high. As well as a set of french doors. We need blinds for privacy in the evenings. I want them them to be very flat when open and not as noticeable. I plan on adding sheers or curtains later.

I am wondering if the holes that pleated shades have will be too noticeable on that large of a window? I included a link to the ones I am looking at. I was leaning towards pleated shades thinking they wouldn't be as heavy as cellular shades. But I have never had pleated shades only the cellular. Both are available which would you prefer?

I have pleated shades in the back windows of my house and they are fine .. However, I am considering the cellular shades that, in addition to pulling the bottom up, you can also pull the top down. One of my neighbors has this in their front picture window and it looks so nice. These really give you the right amount of privacy and the right amount of light that you need. They are pricey, but in my opinion worth it! Linda

It depends on the amount of privacy you need. I have both pleated shades and cellular shades. I have a pleated shade in a downstairs bathroom that, at night when the lights are on, you can see the silhouette of anyone inside, if you're standing on our deck. You really can't see shapes through the cellulars.

I have roman shades in the bedroom. They are mostly decorative and a bit of a nuisance to open and close. I do close them at night, but have to fuss with the folds every morning when pulling them up. Light leaks in around the edges. I guess there are various kinds of roman shades. Mine are zero fuss and fit close to the edges and are cordless, top-down bottom-up. Even without the side panels mine are close to the edge in an inside mount. measured to fit. You may be referring to more designer custom fabric-y style roman shades???

We build cellular shades here in Vermont with Hunter Douglas cellular fabric made by Comfortex. We have a good client base in Australia, as well as other very hot places in the US, so I asked a Comfortex rep about any heat limits. The fabric we build our shades with has no limitation that would preclude usage in extremely hot locations. If you invest in a quality shade it'll last you. Ours last 20 years! Hope that helps!

We also haven’t quite figured out how to decorate so if we go with Roman shades, these shades probably won’t get picked out for another year, probably. It's hard to tell from just one photo, but at least some of your windows are very close to the wall, which would make curtains an odd-looking, difficult choice without adequate room for stacking back the curtains on the side so that they don't cover up too much of the window when the curtains are open. I'd probably go with Roman shades, but definitely decorate the room and live in the house for at least a few months before you decide. Window coverings of any sort aren't cheap.
