We have a rule at our house, who ever gets home first cooks supper. So, yes..I'd say he cooks (REALLY COOKS) about 1/2 the time really. Of course as I am writing this he e-mails me that he's going to order Pizza for supper. Hey as long as I don't have to cook, I don't care!!!

DH does 80% of the cooking at our house, both breakfast and dinner. He moved his office home a few years ago. I have nearly an hour long commute home. I was coming home and cooking and by the time everyone was done eating and stuff cleaned up, it felt like it was about time to go to bed. He came to the conclusion on his own that it just didn't make sense for him NOT to do the cooking, since his time was more flexible than mine. At first he had only his few "signature" dishes, but he has really added to his repertoire over the years. And often, he asks me to find a recipe for something specific in my collection of cookbooks, and I am happy to do that.

Well, this is a second marriage for both of us and he lived alone for 10 years after his divorce. When we were dating, he cooked for me (which I loved!) and it was tasty!

So yes, he fixes a lot of meals and never complains. He works 40 hours a week (and I don't), but he still cooks about 30% of the time. And he also does all the outdoor grilling, which is real nice.

My boyfriend cooks quite a bit...mostly when I don't feel like it. I am a better cook and enjoy cooking so I usually choose to do it though.

He also does the dishes every time I make a meal, he thinks it's only fair. We definitely agree on that, LOL. I hate doing dishes because we don't have a dishwasher.

Mine can make two things really well - Clam Chowder soup and Shrimp Scampi. He doesn't make them too often but they are so good. He really makes a huge mess too but I have to say over the years, he has gotten much better about cleaning up after himself.

Oh, yes. Rick has always cooked, and done it well. He has several dishes that are favorites of mine. Sometimes he gets a little .... inventive .... and I have to eat it anyway, but 95% of the time it's wonderful.

For years, my DH and I commuted to work together. we arrived home exactly the same time, tired cranky and hungry. He would immediately start dinner, whereas I would look at the mail, take care of our pets, putter around. He is a much better, faster cook than I've ever been. I like making cakes and desserts. He is the son of a working mother who taught him to cook for himself, including many ethnic Italian dishes from scratch. Now that I'm retired, I have loads more time. I enjoy researching new recipes and trying to make them. So now we both cook, but I do the majority- about 75 vs 25%.

DH doesn't 'cook', but he'll eat anything I cook and say it's good (even if it's only OK). He's not like some retired husbands I know who expect wifey to prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner. (I know one wife whose DH only knows how to make a P&J sandwich -- so he claims, and so she LETS him claim.) My DH will also wash any pots or pans that don't go in the dishwasher.

My MIL always believed that men and boys should be catered to, and should never have to lift a finger in the kitchen. Then he went and married a home economist who loves to cook, and doesn't really like anyone else messing around in her (my) kitchen.

So no, he almost never cooks, doesn't have much culinary knowledge.

However, on Christmas Eve, he does make us pizzas on Pitas. That's his specialty. And one night, I was watching Ray Ray and she was doing a show on how every now and then the non-cooker in the family should make dinner for the cook. She was making hot turkey sandwiches. So every now and then, he'll stop at the supermarket and pick up deli turkey, a jar of gravy, and some broccoli and make me dinner!!! (Rachel made her own gravy, but hey, for my DH, that would be quite a stretch)--and I always appreciate the thought!

Once, long ago, he made me an omelette. Not sure I was able to salvage the pan.....

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ---- unless you call heating up fish sticks and frozen french fries "cooking"!

Oh yes, and in the summer time when he says he'll make dinner, it really means "I'll stand outside and grill the meat while you prepare the salad, the fixings, the dessert, etc. and then clean it up afterwards."

My husband cooks his own meals regulary. Good thing too, as I really don't like to cook or eat totally fat free. Do you realize, this means, NO CHEESE?

Only if everything is ready for him to heat up. I make huge batches of marinara sauce and lots of meatballs and freeze. He can boil the water for the pasta and heat up the sauce and meatballs and fix garlic bread. Oh he can fry an egg for a fried egg sandwich.
The man could survive on peanut butter and burnt bacon sandwichs. Oh the other favorite is cream of tomato soup with a sleeve of Town House crackers.

My hubby makes 3 things well. Waffles and pancakes, which I am no good at for whatever reason, and grilled cheese sandwiches. Other than that, I do all the cooking. But he's a champ and usually does the clean up. Works for me!

DH could starve to death standing in front of an open refrigerator! He doesn't cook, won't cook, won't learn how to cook. Heating a can of soup in the microwave is almost beyond him!

He doesn't do dishes, either. Has no idea how to load the dishwasher, and faced with a sink-full and a dishrag, would call the neighbor for help.

This, I say, comes from being the oldest child and only son, with a doting mother and three younger sisters to take up the slack. Not to mention having been married for 17 years (before me) to a traditional SAHM who turned out to be totally nuts!

BTW we've been married 22 years, and he IS learning how to graze in the fridge for leftovers suitable for a mid-morning snack.

Nan nc, Your husband sounds just like mine! Except we have been married 56 years! He would use up the dishes until he ran out!

About the only thing he can do by himself is pancakes, from scratch too, and I guess grill. He does help me about 70% of the time so if he needed to I bet he could cook. Well, easy dishes anyway. At Christmas he does make a mean Sweet Potato casserole, with my help, of course.

My DH really doesn't like to cook, but he does it sometimes. It works for us, because I do like to cook, and if I don't feel like cooking, he doesn't mind, and will fix me a salad or something. He also sets the table, does the dishes, gets the groceries and puts them away. He does an awful lot of the work around here, so it doesn't bother me that he doesn't cook.

My husband is a better cook than I am. He's more adventurous and confident where I tend to follow recipes that I am familiar with. He usually makes dinner at least once a week when he has time and he always helps when we have company or big family meals.

Of course he cooks. I'd never marry a helpless man, and I hate to be perceived as a helpless woman. I"m a dab hand at pouring concrete, and have helped out with roofing, even though I don't enjoy ladder work.

I absolutely hate the notion that someone is incompetent at a particular job based on gender.

The DH scrubs floors and bathrooms, I mow and plant veggies, we both harvest and can produce.

All that said, I am the better cook, so I do most of it - but he's in the kitchen with me often, chopping veg and taste-testing. We both clean up.

But he is the guy who invited me to his boat on our second date and produced a perfect cheese souffle for dinner.

Yep, DH cooks 40% of the time. And, I glad for that because cooking isn't one of my favorite things to do.

He can and does often. He likes to bring home takeout too and he grocery shops quite a bit because I don't buy enough JUNK food. He picks up groceries and his naughty food. I have never liked to cook, he didn't grow up cooking, so we cook because we get hungry! lol
He is not an adventurous cook but it works for me.

I'm married to Breakfast Man!!!! Able to scramble eggs and fry potatos for me. Even add in some fried Spam! Waffles and French toast are some specialties too.

Things have slowly evolved to the point where hubs does the vast majority of the cooking around here, and he also does about 90% of the kitchen cleanup, too. Suits me just fine. :-)

If it wasn't for DH we would have starved a long time ago.

My DH cooks 95% of our meals. He's an excellent cook!

Lord yes, Wayne cooks 99% of all our meals. I bake a lot but he does most of the cooking. He is fantastic at it and loves doing it. NancyLouise

Yes, and my hubby is a great cook, far better than I am. He seems to enjoy it, whereas I really don't. If I cook, I clean up the dishes. If he cooks, I still clean up the dishes. Something is wrong with that picture. LOL

My sweet hubby sure tries, but he can't seem to coordinate the timing of each dish.

My husband used to cook alot until the pain was too much for him and he couldn't stand for long periods of time anymore. He was a much better cook than I was.

nan nc,yep sounds like my husband.He would use every dish then go buy paper plates. I have always thought how wonderful it must be to have a husband that would cook just every once in a while but if he did he would not clean up his mess.lol

Yes!!!! In my eyes, I have the "bestest" husband. He makes coffee for me every the mornings.(he doesn't drink coffee) I wake up every morning to the smell of coffee and sometimes to the smell of breakfast cooking. When I was working sometimes I would come home to a nice hot meal, with a smile on his face and a hug and "How was your day?" on his lips. The best times we share are in the kitchen together with both of us cooking and sharing. These are our blessed times.

My husband does all the cooking--breakfast, lunch and dinner. The only time I cook is if I choose to bake or if I want to take something special to a pot luck. This works for me!

Marilyn Sue, guess you didn't train your husband very well if all he can fix is cereal with Little Debbie! Yes, my husband knows his way around the kitchen but very seldom do I let him in there.

My DH does 98% of the cooking now.He had done some off and on for several years,then last year when i had to have 2 surgeries he took over doing all of it,and he still does it.He also does the laundry,dishes and other stuff.The things he doesn't like to do is vacuum and dust,and that's ok with me.

When my husband and I were married, he worked two jobs until he became self employed. Then he worked 7 days a week for the most part and from 7 in the morning until sometimes 8 or 9 at night. By the time he came home he was too tired. Now since he had his stroke this past October, he is back to working 6 days a week but only from 8 to 5 most of the time. So, really there was never much time for him to be at home. All home duties, mowing, gardening and the children all 4 of them were pretty much left up to me to take care of. There was no other way we could have done it. Our son and all 3 of our sons in law do know how to cook and help out around the house. So at this late date I don't think anything is going to change. I have just about always been a stay at home mom.

My DH is a good cook. We have very different diets though, so very often we each prepare our own meals. But weekends we try to make something we can both enjoy preparing and eating. He loves pasta which I don't eat and I love fish which he hates, so we each eat what we like!

Yes, but not as much as I would like. He likes to cook and I don't but he probably cooks 2 times a week. I cook 2 or 3 times a week. Tonight he took leftover steak and stir fried it with pepper and onions. He also roasted some fresh asparagus. It was very good.

HAHAHAHAHA! (He doesn't do dishes, either.) But, 2 sons (& daughter) cook & wash dishes for/with their spouses/SO's.

My hubby does not cook meals. However, he does make a great breakfast and will serve me in bed on the weekends. I cherish that! He is also good at grilling. Oh, and he can throw hot dogs into a pot. Other than that, he's pretty limited. After 22 years of marriage, I've accepted it and appreciate who he is!
