Red oak stain colors for floors with pet stains
Comments (1)I prefer a mid tone brown (cool in tone = same effect as gray) like Early American or Walnut. The walnut has a green base which means it will kill the red in the red oak. Going gray is a tricky business. We've seen gray (imagine a watery paint sloshed all over the floor) make pet stains (any liquid stains actually) look WORSE. And that's the last thing you want to see....See MoreBest stain color for stairs to match a red oak natural color flooring
Comments (4)Agreed with the above. For fairly priced change. I’d paint the risers and balusters white. If you want to up the game a drop you can add a runner And for the wrought iron- you will have to do a lot of it. Also at the top of the stairs by the railing in the hallway. So it’s a big project. It is expensive. Not so necessary. But it would look nice :)...See Morewhite oak and red oak floor next to each other stain help
Comments (5)I don't think you will be able to get that light look consistently with red and white oak. You probably need to go with a medium neutral stain on all floors, one that has green tones in it. Green is the complement to red/pink, and mixing complementary colors neutralizes them. I've had success with Special Walnut stain throughout my home. The floors in the original (1920s) part of the home are oak, not sure if red or white. The new white oak floors in the kitchen were installed in 2014; all are stained special walnut. Here is a photo of the transition area between dining room (above the saddle) and kitchen (below the saddle). The color is not too dark and not too light. Depending on the light it can look warmer or cooler. It's my "go-to" color for me and my clients for many years....See MoreWhat stain colors can you use with red oak floors
Comments (9)Either Special Walnut or Provincial will make it easy to blend new and old oak. Here's a photo of Special Walnut, at the transition from 90+ year old oak (not sure if it's red or white) on the top (in a dining room) to brand new white oak on the bottom (in a new kitchen): Could you tell the difference if I didn't tell you which was which? As for color, I personally think that avoiding too light or too dark eliminates a lot of the problems with wood floors. Too dark shows all the lint and too light all the dirt. Also a well-finished and sealed floor can hold up just fine with pets. Also medium toned brown works with any style of home or furnishings....See Moremarcolo
