A few monarch and swallowtail butterflies have been coming to my gardens for a couple of weeks. Hope to see more monarchs as they migrate down. Also have had smaller butterflies most of the summer as well bees and hummingbirds. Saddly I had no self sown red salvias this year and didn't ws any as had so many self sown last year. Fortunately hummingbirds also like other flowers. Echinops in bloom attracts lots of bees and large black flies but I find the aroma distasteful. Not sure if I will keep these plants. No yellow jackets yet though late August is the peak time for them. Perhaps our drought has kept their numbers down along with mosquitoes. Very few mosquitoes all summer, wondering about the effect on birds. Our neighbor's three cats have taken to stalking my birds. They hide amongst the garden plants or lay on a pile of wood until I shoo them away. Yesterday I saw a hawk in the back yard. Chickadees and cardinals still come to the feeder but not many finches. Squirrels and chipmunks have been active all summer, digging here and there. Someone is feeding them peanuts as I found one growing in one of my small pots. Kept it since the original plant was dug up and dead. All the pots have had sunflowers growing in them at one time or another.

I don't think mid-day entertaining is odd at all, though possibly less formal than a Saturday evening party. If the timing still feels weird, plan around an activity. If you friends are the active sort - you could go to a park, rent canoes, play softball, have a snowball fight. Less active - watch a football game, play board games, have a craft day. Heck, have a "we spent all day Saturday raking leaves, come over and tell me my yard looks nice" party. (Formal entertaining on a Sunday afternoon evokes high tea to me - I don't personally care for the little sandwiches, but it is another option) Here is a link that might be useful: craftfetish blog

Wanted to share 2 quick highlights: - geting a foot massage at the Robert Mondavi Solaire booth while enjoying some nice wine and chocolate truffles --> heavenly - finishing up the afternoon with some freshly made rosemary poached salmon with cranberry-lentils and celeriac puree, after watching a cooking seminar Enjoyed myself thoroughly, w/out anyone demanding my time needing something or another (diaper change or sippy cup, etc).

Ah that is a sign that lots of press remnants (including stems) have been used for distillation and also when the distillation process has been run for too long thus including the tail oils in the liquor. The proper thing is made using grape juice and skins not what remains after you have squeezed the juice out to make wine. I never drink the home made stuff (unless I really know what I'm doing because some can be really good). Always buy industrially distilled and controlled bottled stuff.

Nope. Seems like a waste of time to me. I have too much to do with one day off a week. I just go to bed when I'm tired.

I take mine from about 1 to 3 every day. If I don't get one then I don't sleep at night!!! I am toooooo tired to sleep.

I plan to bake a cheesecake in preparation for our daughter's visit tomorrow with our two grandsons 3 and 5 months. Going to be a busy day tomorrow!

Everyday is Sunday. I nap unwillingly....fall asleep in front of the TV. Usually between 3:00 and 4:00 and only about 20 min. Love the DVR. Not only do I not miss anything, but I know exactly how long I was out.

During the summer, I nap in the afternoon if sometimes only for 20min. or so like goergysmom. It really refreshes me, esp. if I've worked hard that morning or if it just feels like a nap kind of day.

I do naps quite often, and the dogs always go with me, one on either side of the bed, on the floor.

Just got up. Dream woke me up.

Napping does not bother my bedtime sleep.

Two hour nap for me everyday. I sleep fine at night. Granddaughter comes over after lunch and we both take 2 hour naps. That is if you count her singing to me until she falls asleep.

I love my weekend naps. If my lung is bothering me alot during the week, I will lay down for about an hour when I get home at 3:00. I actually sleep better...in less pain..if I have had a nap in the afternoon.

I rarely take naps.....usually a sign I am coming down with something but the first two sessions of water aerobics, I napped for two or three hours each time.
If I could take a short nap, wake up feeling rested and alert I would nap more.
I have to get undressed, put of pj's, darken the room and close the door if I am going to take a nap.
