Do You Like Jelly Bellies?

I just found my little bag of assorted Jelly Bellies someone gave me for my birthday, so I had to bring them up here while I am on my computer. I really don't know what my favorite ones are, they have sooo many. I know I don't like the black ones. Do you like them and if so, what flavors do you like?

I think I like them all, Sue. Including the black ones. Which is really strange, because I don't like regular black licorich, but I do like black jelly beans.

I think I am getting a sugar overload already and I have only eaten 4 :) It doesn't take many for me. They are a bit pricey i think. I think they might make sugar free ones, not sure.

Who knows? It might have a fresher flavor because much of the liquid is already gone, so it won't need to be cooked as long. I might taste before adding the full amount of sugar. It could be too sweet otherwise. Haven't tried this; just speculating. Some pharmacies carry ascorbic acid crystals; some don't carry it but will order from their supplier. My pharmacy quit shelving it for lack of demand but would get it for me if I asked. I found a jar in the Natural Foods & Vitamins section of one of our large food-pharmacy-clothing-electonics stores. Of course you can order it online. If you can't find it right away, you can always crush a few aspirin tablets. Carol

Jalapeno Garlic Jelly & Sweet Red Pepper Jelly

The Joy of Jams has a jalapeno, garlic and lime jelly called Hot Green Pepper-Lime Jelly (page 257) - mine is just starting to gel (no added pectin) but it was pretty hot. Same book (page 255) is a Red Pepper Jam (you can omit the hot peppers and use all sweet), page 256 is a Hot Red Pepper Jelly but I would think you could sub sweet peppers for hot. It has 2 3/4C of sugar to 1/3C vinegar (and 2 3/4C homemade apple pectin) so I think it could be sweet.

Modern canning jars and lids are no way as well made/durable/heavy duty as old ones. Way of the world nowdays with a lot of stuff, like furniture for example. When you make jam, the less cooking to get a good set the better, for two reasons--the flavor compounds from the fruit can be deteriorated by the heat because heat activates chemical reactions, and--the longer sugar cooks the more it caramelizes. I know this from being a maple syrup maker from way back. The longer you have to boil the sap to get it to the right concentration, the darker your syrup and the more "taste" it will have. So with jam, you will then have the sugar competing with the fruit, the fruit's taste getting weaker and the sugar's taste getting stronger. But ten minutes? I dunno. I am crap at making elegant jams and preserves. I seem to go from syrup to taffy with no in-between. I've tried a lot of methods, including the "old fashioned" one to minimize cooking time and maximize flavor, and I have never managed to master it. This is an issue for me with berries and peaches, the other fruits I think not so much. Last year I made a decent strawberry preserves with sherry and it tasted darn good, best I ever made. But my strawberry jam is not spectacular usually. Still it is MILES better than store bought, which is loaded with corn syrup. And I've never done paraffin. I've had enough experience with it making candles to last me a lifetime!

Hi everyone thank you so much for your replies, this is truly wonderful to see all this Love! I did so much research yesterday. I am 99% sure these jelly-like balls were eggs, especially when I found what spider mites eggs look like = the exact same thing, perfectly round clear spread apart eggs. This one shows a juvenile mite next to eggs: I tried to take better pictures of my latest findings. It is so tiny it is very hard to capture. Here is an egg: And here is what I think was a juvenile spider mite: I also researched the bug that the grower mentioned but it did not look like what I was finding on my plants. It does look similar to a juvenile spider mite but is more oval shaped rather than perfect round. But at this point I was finding white ones too, so overall very confusing. I also read that this bug the grower mentionned is used for soil fungus and mainly found on the surface of growing medium. ? I kept this last plant secluded and waited to clean it so that I can take pictures and see.. Those white bugs did show up within 1-2hours all over the rosette, the eggs were still there though. Not sure what these were but that was it for me, I reached my limits!! I exactly did the same you did @AS_NJ, I removed a few healthy leaves and got rid of the plant. This was too freaky and got me soooo scared. I put all the removed eggs and infected plant in a doubled up plastic bag, but I didnt want to throw it in my garbage bin outside in case the bug spread near my house and possibly in my garden :/ I put the bag by my car but I have yet thrown it away lol, I don't know where to do so?? Suggestions?? I sent the pictures to the grower and she said I can bring the plant(s) back for refund. I am bringing back ALL the plants I've purchased from her on Saturday just to be 100% careful. This last plant from the latest pictures was one of mine (not from that grower) but I forgot I had placed it with the Saturday new arrivals. It was placed right next to Cali Sunrise which is the one that I had found the most eggs on. I also found more webs on it yesterday after this whole nightmare.

Sue, I did ask Jammer and he said he's in Indiana very often, but he wasn't familiar with your husband's name. He said he needs something done to his cb and might look up that shop.

I usually find jelly beans in either regular fruit flavors or spiced. I like both.

I only like Brachs jelly beans. I love black ones and like to buy the bags with just black ones.

My dh is in love with Jelly Bellies. I buy them for his birthday, Christmas or any holiday because that is what he looks forward to! He let's me pick out some for myself if I get a craving.

I buy them at the supermarket so I can mix my own. I like grapefruit and fruit flavored ones best...pear is another favorite, but I tried buttered popcorn recently and I liked that one too.

Love them! I have a pretty silver candy dish, and have used seasonal colors of Jelly Bellies as an accessory in my kitchen. Had to quit, because I was eating waaaay to many.
The vase of flowers looks pretty, too, and I'm not so tempted to eat the flowers.

I like the tangerine ones. Many food stores carry them in the bulk food section so you can buy just the amount and flavor you like.

Their main factory is less than 2 hours away. We have a factory outlet just 30 minute away. I go in occasionally and buy a bag or two of the belly flops. These are candies that aren't shaped correctly,have been colored wrong or have stuck to another jelly making a double.
The bags are usually (not always) packed as close in flavor families as possible. You can also buy the flavors separately.

I like the banana,green apple and pineapple,cinnamon and root beer flavors. Buttered Popcorn is a top seller but I personally don't care for it.
