Steps for a paver patio

I erected a retaining wall and have my pavers but I'm not sure what is the best way to make steps. You can see my progress at http://www.fairlanet.com/images/patio.JPG where the door is I'd like to have steps come down to the patio surface in a cascading effect. What do I need to do to support something like that? I don't think the proper thing would be to build on top of my pavers? I'd think securing the steps first and then pave would be best but I could be wrong (I am a first timer). Any help with online info, drawings, examples would be appreciated or any new ideas?

Stunning retaining wall. Hopefully you will have a place to enjoy a view of it too.

The photo below really doesn't provide a good picture of our porch but I built what I call an egress porch from the door to the patio. It is really sort of a deck, though free-standing. I wanted a safe way to transport food and for senior citizens to travel between the inside/outside. Concrete piers for the posts were poured below the frost line prior to installing the pavers.

If you are wanting stone (paver) steps, consider pouring concrete steps, then cementing pavers onto them. If your home is new, make certain the backfill settling is complete first. Good luck and enjoy the new patio.

We have the same drainage system as eimea does - no cracking now in over a year - including over a huge area of backfill (we had a deep end exit ramp that essentially meant our entire back patio area is built over 7-8 feet of fill...we compacted and kept wetting down the area as it filled in, put down a 6-8 inch deep "road base gravel" and then used rebar in the concrete pour - honestly not only do we not have any cracks near the drain - we have none outside of the planned control cuts). Our concrete guy did a good job with slopes - when I look for them I notice that we slope toward the drains but I don't notice it at all walking on it - and we dont' have any areas of pooling. I liked this solution a LOT better than deck-o-drain for our yard/pool. Funny how you wanted concrete and are worried about cracking because of the fill and are looking at pavers - we really wanted pavers - but in my area were getting quotes DOUBLE the cost of stamped colored concrete...we just couldn't pay $20-25+ per square foot! I'd been worried about the concrete over our fill - but the concrete has been in for a week shy of a year now with no problems.

Looks awesome, we live in MA and just put an IG pool in this past fall. I'm thinking about doing pavers this spring/summer. Your guy did a great job. How are they holding up? What did they run per Sq ft installed? Any shifting? I have aluminum coping around my pool like you do. I was wondering how I was going to get my pavers to line up under the coping. I thought I would have to pour a small concrere apron near the coping then install the pavers. However it looks like your pavers fit flush up to your aluminum coping??

Both companies are trying to avoid problems where their work will meet. The Trex guy is offering to set his posts before the pavers are laid, and you should let him do this. If there is any place he doesn't want pavers, he should mark the area with landscape paint, stretched string, etc. When the paver guys arrive make sure they know where not to put pavers. That is the best you can do.
