don't know if it's anything like the place we visited in ca years ago, or more recently the bear encounter at mt rushmore...we were almost dissapointed the first few minutes, then we drove around the curve and here were hundred plus bears...it was really amazing! in fact, it was one of the highlights of the trip...that and running into hurd of bison at custer park...

you really have to be aware that the animals are completely wild and follow all the safety measures the park asks...

Yes! I've been to The Wilds! In fact I live about a half hour or so from it. It is fun & interesting. They have a bus that takes you on the tour, or for a bit more $ you can ride in the open air transport. It's 10,000 acres (iirc) of reclaimed strip mine land that the power company donated. The past season they added a "zip-line". They have "mid-size" carnivores along with other animals.... giraffes, zebras, rhinos, antelope-like, camels, etc. They all roam free in large fenced in areas that are similar to their natural habitat. I believe there are overnight "cabins" available. My grandchildren love it!

Safari to Africa, few years ago, and it was awesome.

Is this an overnight at the park? I did an overnight "Roar and Snore" at the San Diego Wild Animal Park in 2006. It was so much fun! We were in a tent right at the edge of the savannah.

Beeohio, thank you for your response. Sounds like The Wilds is the place for me. My home decor is so into animals that friends and family refer to my house as "the zoo"

Glenda, an African Safari would be at the very top of my wish list.

Jodi, I did get to tour the San Diago Zoo in 1996, but not that part of it. Have hoped to get back there before I die to do a Roar and Snore. Maybe Ohio is close enough for me to experience a similar outing.

Susan, I have experienced the "herd of bison" at Custer Park. Beleive me, those suckers are BIG! When you are on a motorcycle and half dozen bison are walking on the road next to you, you mind your p's and q's!

I hope you enjoy it, Garzania! If you're taking a couple of days for a trip, you might also want to travel a couple of hours west to the Columbus Zoo. It's a great zoo. Jack Hanna was the Zoo director for many years & he did a wonderful job in developing it. If you have kids/grandkids coming along, they would probably also enjoy the water park next to the zoo also (altho' I personally haven't been to it).

garzania, we almost panic'ed! sil accidently dropped his water bottle and then being concerned was gonna open the slider on the van to try and get it! we were almost afraid they'd stampede!
