OMgosh...there is a shooter.....!!! please pray

My daughter Carri just called me...there is a shooter in the building where she works...she is whispering...and very scared...she asked for prayer.

This is in Omaha at the Boys Town institute

Hi all, Ernie is finally better! PK, no offense taken at all, that was funny! I wanted to wait before posting to be sure he really was finally on the mend. I had the vet give me some appetite enhancer pills, and boy did they work! I only had to give him one and then one half and he was back to eating. Now he's spoiled rotten with my mother giving him tuna all the time. He gazes up at her in the kitchen and squeeks his little meow and she is supposed to give him tuna. I told her only one time a week, he doesn't ***NEED*** tuna. heh heh Upon getting well from the first thing, he promptly got a sneeze, but that doesn't bother me and he's about over it. I also got sick and have gone through two bottles of cough syrup. Thank you so much for all your prayers and comments and good thoughts, I really really appreciate it! Julie

Two days before Newtown, we had a shooter at one of our local malls. Everyone I talk to is nervous to go out to the malls right now. I work for the State, and I worry about nuts coming into our building and firing off shots. There is a young man who claims to have a CCW and he allegedly drew a bead on the mall shooter, claims to have made eye contact but he didn't shoot because there were other people near by. Then the story goes on to say that after that the shooter killed himself. I say this is 'allegedly' because law enforcement has given some conflicting reports. Regardless, if he did or didn't, the mall is posted as a Gun Free Zone...so that didn't stop a CCW carrier. I don't think these assassins chose gun free zones for that reason, they go where they KNOW they're going to be able to cause mass casualties. Another thing I try to point out is that very, very few people posess the absolute control that a tactically trained person has. All these shooters wear body armor, therefore it'd require a sniper kill shot to the head to take them out. Good luck getting some weekend paper target shooter to make a shot like that, much less someone who rarely, if ever draws a weapon. We all like to think we will be in command if an emergency crisis occurs, but it's just not in our nature! Having to kill someone is not something the majority of citizens has ever had to comprehend in real time. And to have the ability to identify a danger and act? Yeah right. My very first instinct would be to take cover and run, get to a safe place and then, and only then, take offensive measures. I think everyone who thinks they should walk around with a gun on their person try this experiment. Go into a public place with a friend, one that is well populated. Instead of your gun, have a rubber band shooter or some other non-lethal 'gun'. Have your friend shout out KITTY CAT! and turn to point to a 3rd person who is wearing a clown wig and has a similar 'gun'. That person is a shooter. Now, whip out your 'gun' and 'shoot' the shooter. Of course, it's going to be at a random point in time, you're in on this...but you don't know when or where it'll happen. Now, lets time your reaction and see if you actually hit the target and/or were YOU or someone else hit. A non-lethal exercise to gauge just what a Dirty Harry you are. I hate that people need to have a gun in the home for protection, but in some cases it is needed, if you live in a rural area where law enforcement is far away. In that case, I'd certainly hope you have a couple of big, loud dogs as an early warning system. But if you have a gun in the home, why does it have to be a weapon capable of shooting more than 6 bullets at a time? Really, if you're in a situation where an intruder has a semi-auto-chances are you're already going to kiss your hind end goodbye.

Schoolhouse so far we've only heard of the one. I can't imagine what these people, kids and adults, are going thru. And the first responders having to do their job not knowing if they would find thier own child among the wounded. I have no idea if any were but still. If they were a parent they had to be going thru the same thing the other parents were but they still did their job. And a great one at that. I'm in Lorain county.

I just found this on cnn, I had been holding out hope till now "Emily Jane Hilscher, 19, a freshman majoring in animal and poultry sciences, was known around her hometown as an animal lover. "She worked at a veterinarian's office and cared about them her whole life," Rappahannock County Administrator John W. McCarthy, a family friend, told the AP. Hilscher, of Woodville, Virginia, was a freshman majoring in animal and poultry sciences. She lived on the same dorm floor as victim Ryan Clark, McCarthy said. A friend, Will Nachless, also 19, said Hilscher "was always very friendly. Before I even knew her, I thought she was very outgoing, friendly and helpful, and she was great in chemistry."

They're reporting a shooting at the Med Center. Is this a different location?? How scary!

I Pray everyone is OK. That is soooooo scary. Please keep us posted. Sadly, because these shootings seem to happen so often, it doesn't always make the news. Damn guns! there are too many out there and it is too easy for any nut to get a hold of them.

Yes that is the same place.

It is also called Creighton. But is a part of Boy Town institute.

They have the shooter in custody. But I have no idea who was shot inside the hospital.

A couple hour before in the neighborhood by the hospital the sheriffs dept went to a home with a warrent for someone, they came out of the door shooting and shot one of the deputies. The deputies shot and killed the suspect who shot the deputy. The deputies (one shot and one attacked by a sheriffs dept dog.) were taken to the same hospital where my daughter works. So we don't know if it was related or not.

I think they probably have let the employees out of lock down now.

I just talked to Carri a few mins ago. She said she was just coming out of the bathroom and some guy came running by her and about 6 cops running right behind him...They yelled at her saying "get out of here" She ran into her officse and said to the other girls we need to get out of here and hide. She went to her bosses office (which was empty) shut the door and hid in there.

She works right out in the open by the lobby behind glass.

She said the guy that the cops were folling headed for the revolving door in the front. She thinks thats how they caught him because the door revolves real slow and there were cops outside too.

Her husband was home with the kids but had taken Brad to his ball practice just a few blocks away. So that left Tay home alone for just a bit. She turned on the tv and saw the live news. She's 12 and old enough to realize that was where mom works. She freaked.

She called her moms cell phone. So Carri called a friend who lived near by and ask her to go get Tay because she was so upset. Friend asked sure, why?

Carri said because there is a man out there with a gun... Then scared friend.

She said her phone has just been ringing off the hook now that she is home...I can imagine.

Thanks for prayers..Who knows, that guy could have shot a lot more while he was at it.

anxious to know why he did this..

I can't even imagine how upset and frightened she must have been. I want to think that in her position I would have done the same thing and warned my co workers instead of running to save myself. I'm so glad she is safe.

This is a perfect example how cell phone can/will incite riots in dangerous situations. Police do not need panic in the populous while they are trying to deal with a lunatic. I would fire your daughter, she could have put the entire building in worse jeopardy.

The shooter is in jail and it looks like the man he shot will survive.

Thank heaven your daughter is safe, and that she helped her coworkers and daughter. Carri's heart is in the right place.

How frightening.

Arcy, at the high school I worked in and the newspaper my husband did it is indeed a "discipline" offence to use your cell phone to call ANYONE except 911 for any reason during an emergency of this type. At regular staff meetings we are instructed to be absolutely certain that all cell phones are turned off (and lights, too) during an emergency, as a cellphone ringing accidentally could alert a shooter to a persons whereabouts.

I've never been in any sort of situation, but I can imagine that no matter how well trained, it would be very hard to follow the rules. We want to reassure our loved ones and let them know we are safe, but it means jeopardizing so much more, possibly even getting ourselves killed in the attempt.
