My Bargains for Today

We finally got home from our grocery shopping. We didn't get an early start and Amber had a few places she wanted to go. We had a good take out lunch from Bob Evans.

Choice Beef Chuck Eye Roast (boneless) $1.74 a pound

Choice Beef Round Eye Round Roast (boneless) $2.23 a pound

Strawberries $.98 a pound

English Walnuts pieces $3.99 a pound

Sweet Potatoes $.50 a pound

Gold Medal Flour 5 # bag $1.99

Freshlike frozen vegetables were $.89 a pound package

Milk was still $1.97 a gallon all varieties except chocolate

I missed my call from my art teacher. She just wanted to check in with me as she is back from Panama! May talk with her later.

How has everyone else's day gone and have you any bargains for this week?

I used to get bargains like that back home in Texas, but not where we live now. Lucky you!! I won something on the radio this morning! I was hoping they'd be Jonas Brothers concert tickets for my DD, but hey, I still got a free gift. Some kind of Glade candle stuff, gift card to Burger King and something I couldn't quite understand what they said was. I'll know when I go pick it up on Monday.

I'll be the dissenting opinion here on soaking and say that they don't need to be soaked, but I definitely agree, do not trim the roots. Your hostas just came out of a cooler/cold storage and are not quite ready to grow. In a few days they will start to wake up, but until then they really don't need water. Dormant hostas store what moisture they need and can only hold so much. When they don't have leaves they have absolutely no way to get rid of excess water, but the roots will keep trying to soak it up until cell damage starts to occur, if you soak too long. If they are shrivelled up and dried out then yes, soak them for a little while (30 minutes to an hour is usually plenty) but if they are plump roots just plant them, water good to let them know it is time to wake up, then wait for them to emerge. If you get regular rains that is enough water in the meantime. As to the crown depth, hostas grow from underground rhizomes and new root growth emerges from above the old, so the roots should always be underground. If your soil is well aerated (loose and light - not compacted) then ideally the dormant eyes should also never be showing after planting. If it is really hard and compact you should improve the soil, but if you can't, then just plant about a half inch below the surface, so at least the roots are covered with soil. The rot problems people have with plants that are too deep is not really a depth issue but a lack of oxygen issue. Keep your soil well aerated and they will happily grow below ground. Good luck! Have to try to remember. Lately milk has been $1.69/gal and grapes have been 99Â¢/# and they're huge grapes. Never seen any this size and shape and they're pretty good. 5qt pail of ice cream was $1.99. Those breaded chicken (Kiev, Cordon Bleu, etc) for $1, lots of stuff BOGO and not unreasonable starting prices. Butter has been on sale several times for $1.29-$1.55#. Ham for 99Â¢/#. That IS a bargain! It's hard to beat F-R-E-E. I got two recently. One was Saturday when I went online to Penneys web site to order a set of dishes. It was a service for 12 that was regularly $199 -- and in the sale bill they were just $99. When I went online to order them, they were just $79! :-) Another was a bumper we had replaced on my truck recently. DH got estimates in the spring, and one body shop was nearly the same cost for a new one as to repair the hole in the old one (about $450). A few months later, DH calls the one and asks if the estimate is still good. Body shop says yes, so husband made appointment. We took the truck in. Body shop calls husband to tell him the truck is nearly done---and there was a mistake with the esimate. Bumper cost $1200 but they will "eat" part of their mistake and it will only cost us $900. When the dust settled, body shop stood by their estimate and we did, in fact, get a $1200 bumper for $450. We didn't know their estimate was wrong...just knew that for about the same price as fixing the old one, we could have a brand new one.

I checked the "is it a real Kate Spade" link This is what it said about the made in what country tag on the inside. "Until 2002, the China label simply looked like the little made in Taiwan label " I checked and it does...and the embossed stamp on the outside looks the same...Soooooo....now I'm wanting it even more...LOL...but that's okay....My kids are worth it. patti

Aren't bargains great. I also picked up two packages of Mama Rosa's fresh pizzas and gave them to my daughter, Amber. There were two in a package and they had them for $3.59 a package. They were nice sized pizzas. I think they were sausage pepperoni ones. Congrats on winning something on the radio show this morning. I haven't won anything that I can think of in a long time. Once when I was shopping in a drug store, I entered all four of our children in a contest they had. The oldest daughter, Cheryl won a thousand dollars!

I am glad you got some good deals at abe books, Wanda. I get all my used books at rummage sales. I hope I can find time to read them. I fall asleep to easily to read at night.

Lets see-
CVS has Softsoap Body Wash for $4.99, I had a $1 coupon plus got back $4.99 in Extra Care Bucks for its better than free!!!.

Walgreens has Chapstick Naturals and Chapstick Shimmers for $2 and you get back $2 in register rewards coupons when you buy one so they are free (register rewards are coupons good on any purchase). Came back in and used it on a gallon of milk that was $2.99 before the coupon.

Publix has a new display with Spongebob items. I debated on buying the wallet as a stocking stuffer for DD. Decided to by it for $5.99, but it rang up as $6.99 so they gave it to me for free! They have a policy-if you are overcharged the item is free!!

Stopped in Kmart today. Found some bras clearanced to $1.99. Sport bras were in 2 pks for $1.99. I spent $22 on 6 bras for me, 4 bras for DD, a tee shirt ($1.99), 2 exercise type shirts ($1.99 each), a pkg of Duracell batteries, and a bag of Dubble Bubble gum.

Bought a "gift card" for CUB foods today. $300 card and they add $30 onto it so you get $330 credit for $300. Considering what the stock market and bank accounts pay, 10% return is pretty good. And face it, even I can go through $300 worth of groceries in a reasonable amount of time. Plus I put it on Discover so I'll get the cashback bonus on top of it.

A Pendleton store opened in my area yesterday. Yoo Hoo!
I went and got 1 spring jacket, 2 sweaters and 1 blouse. All for $129. A good deal if you have ever shopped Pendelton. My niece got a job there too, so in couple weeks when her probation is up, I can get another 30% off. (nothing shady, she can extend to relatives...yea for me!)
