Your pics look just like my mahogany did before I applied stain. It appears your stain all washed away.... sorry....

Also, out of curiosity, what did you use to fasten the boards to the joists?

Brian, I am not really sure what I am looking for. The pictures looked fine to me.

Ken - I'm a little confused too. To my eye, it appears that there's no stain whatsoever on the boards in light of the color (which looks like unfinished mahogany) and the absolute lack of beading 3 days after application.

I could be missing his question, too....

Brian (7972) I thought the same thing. I was expecting to see a much more brilliant tone to the wood. Its hard to sometimes tell what is going on in pictures so I held off asking some key questions about application technique and pre-seal prep.

I think white spots are the least of your worries. That deck could star in a movie called, "DUDE, WHERE'S MY STAIN?"
Something seriously happened to your stain. That looks an entire re-do.

John - Yeah, looks like T&G. I've never used it before...what threw me off was the three (finish?) nails on the first picture (left hand board). Do you still use any fasteners even with T&G? Just curious (for my next project).

Ok, my pictures apprarently did not come out right...there is ATO Mahgoney Flame on the boards.....I took the pictures in direct sunlight, so they are appearing much lighter then they really are.

I will try and re-take the pictures.

Bri - I have mahogany flame on my mahogany deck and it looks quite different than yours. Mine (when dry) looks like yours does under the water spots/areas in your pictures (it's that dark). Your dry areas look like mine did before I applied stain. Also, you're getting no beading at all - your stain appears to have washed away, unfortunately.

By way of comparison, here's what mine looks like (a little dirty, at the end of the season). Newly applied Mahogany Flame on mahogany wood should "jump" out at you with its brilliance. My deck looks dull in this picture because it's dirty and overcast, but you'll get the gist.

Hey Brian, I fasten the T&G material thru the tougue with a ss screw after a pilot and a countersink made with the same 1/8'' bit, dont pre drill into the frame just the ipe, use counstruction adhesive on the joists. J

Ok, updated the pictures. The spotting is not ver y noticable this morning, so I don't know what going on.

And to prove that it was my pciture taking and not my deck, you can see the Mahgoney Flame now. Although I still have posts/railings/trim pieces to stain. Very hard in New England to have the right conditions...

Your picture isn't really picking it up but I'm almost guaranteed you got water spots.
You applied this stuff when your boards were still with a high moisture. That's what causes white spots.
The oxygenation of this trapped moisture from below, in, or above..(dew or rain). This may dry out in a few days of decent weather or you may have to put on new stain to blend out this area.
I know it's stupid.. but make sure it's not just coming from a tree or anything.. or bird sht...lol

Bri - thanks for the updated pictures; it's amazing what difference an angle of a photograph can make. It's obvious (contrary to what I said above) your stain "took."

I suspect you do have water spots, as gorilla noted above. Perhaps pressurepros has some ideas on what to do here...good luck
