pond water clear but green
Comments (8)Hi! Thanks for the follow ups! We don't have plants because it is a "japanese garden" and my husband doesn't want any....... I would have at least a lily, but got out voted. The pond has clarified and is looking better. I guess it just takes patience and I will be working on changing his mind about the plants. Chemicals are expensive and I would like it to be more organic. Patty...See MoreHelp clearing my water!
Comments (6)Be sure your filter is stable. I had a mess when the wind blew mine (tall kitchen trash can) into the pond. I lifted it out and set it just a little farther back. Came home after five hours and pond had emptied about 8". I thought at first the flag stone on the edge had made a hole in my liner. I was sure happy when I filled it again and it didn't leak. I got up three times that night and checked it....See MoreWANTED: plants to help clear water/control algae
Comments (3)That is the best thing to do for green water! A UV light will clear it by killing the green algae, then the filter can clean it out of the water. Then the plants can help keep it clear. A UV light is a well spent investment....See MoreGreen Water - Help!
Comments (6)Has there been any significant changes to your water supply recently? When you test the pool water, test the fill water too. I am willing to hazard the guess that the green is copper. WalMart has HTH Metal Remover for about $11/Qt. Another alternative is Jack's Magic Purple Stuff. Jacks is more potent but more expensive and but both use the same active ingredient to sequester(surrounds and prevents stains) the copper. Goyom, the chlorine lock is actually a result of too much stabilizer in the water. Typically, free chlorine should be 10% of the stabilizer level. Stabilizer in a pool increases when trichlor tabs are used or dichlor powdered chlorine is used. If the stabilizer is left unchecked and goes above 50, standard chlorine tests won't be able to tell you what your actual chlorine level is without diluting the test sample with distilled water. This usually leads to an increased margin of error. The DPD-FAS method of testing can go to 50 ppm and is the GOLD standard. Stabilizer levels that are too high in a pool require partial draining and refilling to dilute it. This can also change other chem levels depending on the fill water. Scott...See More- 12 years ago
